I also led target school recruiting at the Analyst and Consultant level and have joined Leland with the hopes of helping others break into management consulting.

Hi, I’m Annika Friesen, an ICF-certified coach, entrepreneur, and former Bain consultant. I bring a unique perspective as both a post-MBA and industry hire. I began my career at KPMG in audit, gained industry experience, and later joined Bain in an MBA hiring batch after working in education one year post MBA. This means I understand the challenges of both entry paths and can help you navigate whichever journey you’re on. Throughout my career, whether advising clients at Bain or coaching candidates and executives, I’ve been passionate about helping people make bold moves and transform their lives. My mission is to combine insider consulting insights with professional coaching to help you land offers and step confidently into your next chapter. My coaching is holistic and tailored, covering case, fit, and the small nuances that most coaches miss. In Fall 2017, I was able to secure an offer from McKinsey (the only consulting firm to which I applied, actually!) after being "late to the game" of consulting recruiting. Since then, I have practiced cases and otherwise advised dozens of candidates. I can help candidates focus on the most salient skills for successful recruiting in this industry.

Welcome to my profile! As a former Project Leader at Bain & Company, I bring extensive experience in management consulting and a deep understanding of the industry. During my time at Bain, I co-founded the Commercial Excellence Center of Expertise, generating $5M in revenue and scaling the CoE 5x in just 1.5 years. I have led teams on key projects, such as driving 2-3X growth rate increase through opportunity identification for several firms. I have experience of coaching 50+ candidates for management consulting jobs and have taken over 200 case as well as behavioral interviews. Actively involved with the consulting club at Kellogg School of management, where I am currently pursuing my MBA. I began my career in biomedical research at Harvard Medical School before transitioning into management consulting with Deloitte Japan’s Life Sciences & Health Care Division, where I advanced to Senior Consultant. I worked on complex digital transformations, pharmacovigilance system overhauls, and go-to-market strategies for new drug launches. Having built my career across North America (both U.S. and Canada) and Japan, I bring a cross-border perspective to consulting recruiting, particularly in how candidates are evaluated differently across markets. I successfully broke into Bain as a non-business major at a non-target school. Having just gone through the consulting recruitment process, I understand exactly what it takes to succeed at every stage. I have both given and received over 100 case interviews while mentoring friends and peers, and I am deeply familiar with the behavioral interview process, storytelling, and building strong connections with interviewers. I now joined Leland to work with ambitious students who want clear, structured, and practical guidance across every component of consulting recruiting, from casing and fit to confidence and communication!

I have coached over 15 people over the last year and a half. I have a track record of success, with 80% of my clients landing offers at Bain, BCG, and McKinsey. My main expertise falls under consulting diversity programs, internships, and entry-level roles.
