As a current dental student at The Ohio State University, I have been through the rigorous path of dental school applications. Applying during the mess of COVID I received interviews and acceptances from all of the schools I had applied at ultimately putting me at The Ohio State University. Starting on the journey without any prior family or friends in dental school I had to learn how to do it all and this forced me to find mentors and students along the way.. with getting assistance from so many others I would love to be that source for someone else.

Rachel Kulchar was born and raised in sunny San Diego. She is a current DDS/PhD student at UCLA and predoctoral fellow with the NIH. Here, she researches how cancer therapies affect the salivary glands. She earned her undergraduate degree from Princeton University, majoring in Chemistry with minors in Global Health & Health Policy and Materials Science & Engineering. With over 20 peer-reviewed publications and experience as a journal reviewer, Rachel brings a deep understanding of academic research and the higher education landscape. She has also served on several national boards focused on research and student recruitment in health-related fields. At UCLA, she has taught undergraduate science courses as a teaching assistant and enjoys mentoring students in both academic and pre-professional pathways. As a college consultant with over a year of experience, Rachel is dedicated to helping students find and gain admission to their best-fit schools. She fosters a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel empowered to ask questions, grow with confidence, and aim high. Hi, I’m Dr. Alex Piedra — a practicing pediatric dentist, entrepreneur, and dental school admissions coach. I am an undergrad graduate from BYU. I also graduated from the highly sought after University of Utah School of Dentistry and now teach Foundations of Dentistry at Baylor University, where I mentor pre-dental students and guide them toward their goals with clarity and confidence. Beyond academics, I own and operate four successful pediatric dental practices, giving me firsthand insight into both the clinical and business sides of dentistry. I’ve coached dozens of students through the application process, helping them craft compelling personal statements, ace their interviews, and ultimately get into their dream schools. As a current Harvard DMD candidate and private tutor, I have a deep understanding of the dental school admissions process and what it takes to succeed. My experience as an admissions counselor and tutor at College Choice Counseling and DAT Bootcamp has allowed me to help students excel in all areas of the Dental Admission Test (DAT), build strong school lists, plan resume-building activities, craft a personal statement, nail their interviews, and everything in between. I have helped dozens of students accomplish their dreams and I can help you reach yours too! For those curious about my application cycle: I applied to 11 schools, received interview invites to 10 schools, interviewed at 8 programs, and was accepted to 6 programs--including Harvard (where I now attend), UCLA (as an out-of-state applicant) with a Dean's scholarship, and UT Health Houston (as an out-of-state applicant) with their "Glenn T. Housholder Competetive Scholarship", which meant I would receive in-state tuition in addition to the scholarship money they were offering me.

During my 3rd and 4th years of college, COVID-19 years, I engaged in countless hours of shadowing, service, and studying for the DAT. Additionally, my wife and I were lucky to have a child born two months before finals in the second to last semester of our undergraduate studies. With my wife’s support, I was able to surpass my goal on the DAT and we both graduated from BYU-Provo within 4 years of starting. I applied to 12 dental schools, interviewed at six, and was accepted and offered a position at all six schools beginning in the fall of 2022. I am currently a first-year dental student attending the University of Utah School of Dentistry. I have founded a Public Health Club and am a member of the Pediatrics and Business clubs among participating in a handful of others. Additionally, I am currently working on becoming an AHEC Scholar and am working to figure out a schedule to graduate with a dual degree MPH/DDS with the Dean of my school.

Recieved interview invitations to the majority of school I applied to and was accepted into most of those. Assisted in interview days for prospective Utah dental students. Currently serving in leadership positions that have provided me access to admissions committee members that have explained what they look for in potential candidates. Current applicant for orthodontic residencies. I have spent numerous hours learning what admissions committees of all types look for. I have already recieved multiple notable interview invites for residencies and hope to share this knowledge with other applicants.

I have worked in the mentorship space since college. I still advise students on how to get into their top undergraduate programs - specifically those that are international students. The application process for international students is much more difficult in both undergrad and professional school. To make matters worse, there is not much information available to students to navigate this complicated journey. This is where I come in. I can speak from personal experience and aid students - international or not - on how to navigate a difficult admissions process to get into the school you want to get into.
