As a current medical student at Mayo Clinic, I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to MCAT preparation as well as required pre-med courses. While completing my MD, I also work as an instructor for Kaplan's MCAT prep courses and as a tutor/TA for Mayo's College of Medicine and Science. My background in psychology and extensive work in behavioral health uniquely positions me to address the psychological and emotional challenges that often accompany MCAT study and the stressful, competitive nature of the pre-med path. With years of experience as a natural sciences tutor, I have successfully helped students master the complex scientific concepts essential for the MCAT and their undergraduate courses. Over the last five years, I've developed a toolkit to fundamentally change the way many students approach the MCAT. A reasoning test first and foremost, I've built on my foundational teaching skills to help students not only meet their goals, but often exceed them. Going through the premed process can be arduous and anxiety-provoking, and preparing for a high-stakes examination like the MCAT is no exception. I've honed in on skills fostered through years of working as a mentor and teacher with the CURB Peer Mentorship Program, teaching in local K-12 high schools in Ithaca through 21st Century & REACH and conducting in-person and online MCAT tutoring with both Yale and Cornell undergrads. Now, having adapted a course full of materials, strategies, and resources to guide my students, I'm excited to use Leland's platform to share my insights and strategies to the next generation of future physicians. I scored in the 99th percentile in the MCAT, but what sets me apart is my motivation to adapt and invest in the needs of every one of my students. From personalized Anki decks for each AAMC content outline, to unique, integrative protocols to optimize students’ approaches to each MCAT section, I strive to go above and beyond as a resource for my students. I scored a in the 98th percentile on my first attempt at the MCAT, achieving perfect scores in both CARS and PS. I have extensive experience tutoring these sections in particular, in addition to building personalized study schedules, developing content-review strategies, and coaching students on test-taking mindset and endurance.
