Despite my youth, I've amassed nearly 5 years of professional MCAT Instruction and Coaching. As the former Director of MCAT Instruction at Jack Westin, and a current medical student at the University of Toronto, I've supported hundreds of pre-med students with their MCAT preparation. I place a large emphasis on test taking strategy and individualized study plans so that each student can see the most progress in the shortest amount of time. I've helped multiple students achieve 20+ point increases, which ultimately puts the student in a stronger position when it comes to applying to medical school.

As a Gates-Cambridge Scholar and an incoming MD candidate at Columbia University, I bring a strong academic background and a passion for helping others succeed. Over the last five years, I've developed a toolkit to fundamentally change the way many students approach the MCAT. A reasoning test first and foremost, I've built on my foundational teaching skills to help students not only meet their goals, but often exceed them. Going through the premed process can be arduous and anxiety-provoking, and preparing for a high-stakes examination like the MCAT is no exception. I've honed in on skills fostered through years of working as a mentor and teacher with the CURB Peer Mentorship Program, teaching in local K-12 high schools in Ithaca through 21st Century & REACH and conducting in-person and online MCAT tutoring with both Yale and Cornell undergrads. Now, having adapted a course full of materials, strategies, and resources to guide my students, I'm excited to use Leland's platform to share my insights and strategies to the next generation of future physicians. I scored in the 99th percentile in the MCAT, but what sets me apart is my motivation to adapt and invest in the needs of every one of my students. Scored a 40 (99th percentile) on the MCAT in 2008 (dang, I'm getting old) and subsequently coached for Kaplan professionally during med school and later on an ad hoc basis for individual clients. My approach to the MCAT is highly personalized and focused on test taking strategy. We will spend more time on HOW to prepare (what should you be doing each day) and HOW to take the test (what is the strategy when you actually sit down on test day). Focused content review is an option for topics sitting at the intersection of particularly problematic for the applicant and highly represented on the exam.

I scored a in the 98th percentile on my first attempt at the MCAT, achieving perfect scores in both CARS and PS. I have extensive experience tutoring these sections in particular, in addition to building personalized study schedules, developing content-review strategies, and coaching students on test-taking mindset and endurance.
