I know this firsthand because I've navigated this transition myself. My entry point into entertainment came early, advising one of the major studios as part of my client portfolio at PwC. But when I eventually recruited for my current role at Lionsgate, I was essentially re-entering the industry from scratch — the landscape had shifted dramatically with the rise of streaming, and I had to position myself accordingly. That experience of breaking in as an outsider, despite having prior industry exposure, gave me a deep appreciation for what actually moves the needle in entertainment recruiting. Today I sit within the Motion Picture Group's Business Strategy & Planning team at Lionsgate, where I work across the filmed entertainment business and stay close to the trends reshaping the industry. I've also been on the other side of the table — interviewing for finance and strategy roles at DirecTV, Disney Streaming, Roku, and Amazon Studios/Prime Video — which gives me a realistic, ground-level understanding of how these companies evaluate candidates and what they're really looking for. I have worked across different cultures, industries and production environments, and I understand how important positioning, image, materials and strategy are for actors trying to move forward professionally. Today, with the internet, you can start from almost anywhere. I know this because I started alone, from a small town in the French mountains, with no industry connections, no family support in the business, and no clear roadmap. Over the years, I have informally helped around 50 young actors and actresses improve their headshots, showreels, casting profiles, agent outreach and overall positioning. I spent 10 years in the media and entertainment space in Los Angeles before I became a Career and Executive Coach, full-time. I started in feature animation production (DreamWorks Animation), moved to casting for film & TV, then went back to DWA as a C Level Executive Assistant and HR Admin, then moved to supporting a friend with a small corporate media company (events, think Vegas global sales conference) while acting and writing full-time, and then moved to recruiting interns (undergrad, JD and MBA) and entry level hires for the Walt Disney Studios, Lucasfilm and ILM. This included roles in production, animation (artists), VFX, marketing and brand management, brand partnerships, music licensing, art archiving, story/development and continuity, production finance, business development, corporate strategy and more! I've been in the entertainment industry for over 25 years, as an actor, producer, writer, and line producer, so I know it from both sides of the camera, not just one. My producing and writing has earned Telly Awards, Davey Awards, and film festival distinctions, and I've line produced and managed budgets on indie features, pilots, and short films. I've also built corporate video content for companies like Lockheed Martin, US Foods, Bechtel, and Resound, created my own projects, and started my own production company. Honestly, that combination is pretty rare. Most industry coaches have either the creative credits or the budgeting and production chops. I have both. The people I've coached have gotten their projects produced, secured hundreds of thousands in funding, become series regulars, performed on Broadway, and worked on network and studio sets around the world. I teach line producing, budgeting, and production management, so I'm pretty good at breaking down how this industry actually works in a way that actually makes sense.
