Welcome to my profile! John Replogle is a freelance musician and educator in New York City. He earned a Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music, and a Masters of Music from New England Conservatory. Since moving to New York, John has been playing on Broadway shows including: Book of Mormon, Matilda, Pippin, Paramour (Cirque Du Soleil on Broadway), The Prom, and Hello Dolly! (starring Bette Midler, David Hyde Pierce, Donna Murphy, and Bernadette Peters), at Radio City Music Hall (The Christmas Spectacular and The Spring Spectacular), and also with the Big Apple Circus to name a few. John has also performed for several artists including: Hugh Jackman, Paul Anka, The Who, Gino Vannelli, Jason Scheff, The Four Tops and Temptations, Bobby Sanabria, Clay Aiken, Danilo Perez, Audra MacDonald, and David Alan Grier. John has toured nationally and internationally. Some notable touring experiences include: Paul Anka, National Tour of Monty Python’s Spamalot, National Tour of The Prom, The Artie Shaw Orchestra, and The Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus (The Red, Blue, and Gold shows). John is frequently called for various recording opportunities as well. Recently, he was featured on an episode of Z Nation on the SyFy network. John can also be heard and seen in the movie “My Best Friend’s Girl” starring Jason Biggs, Dane Cook, and Kate Hudson. As an educator, John has experience teaching clinics on trumpet pedagogy and section playing, as well as brass instrument instruction. John serves as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Trumpet with Ocean City College, Trumpet Instructor and Ensemble Director at Elizabethtown College, teaching artist with the WeBop program at Jazz at Lincoln Center, teaching artist with the Bronx Arts Ensemble, and also Brass Faculty with The Music Conservatory of Westchester. John received the Maynard Ferguson Award and the Ray Kotwica Award in 2007 for Excellence in Performance.

With a Master of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre Writing from New York University and over a decade of experience in the music industry, I am passionate about helping creatives reach their full potential. As the former CEO of Makai Music, I managed the lifecycle of 60+ musicals and collaborated with top companies like NBC, the Rodgers and Hammerstein Library, and worked on Broadway musicals for the last 20 years. My coaching approach is rooted in the Co-Active Model, which I honed through my certification as a Professional Co-Active Coach. I am distinctly passionate about music from nearly every angle I've been able to approach it—the precision of studio recording; the architecture of rehearsing; the chemistry of live performance; the intricacy of writing for film, dance, and the concert hall. I hold a B.M. in Music Composition and Percussion Performance from Ithaca College and an M.M. in Commercial Music Composition & Arranging from Belmont University, and I've spent over fifteen years teaching alongside all of it. As a composer, my work has been performed in the U.S., France, Spain, Germany, Taiwan, Latvia, and China. I've scored film, dance, and podcasts; composed the sonic identity for Intuit QuickBooks' national Hero Program campaign; and had my percussion concerto Dichotomous Figures programmed by the Orquestra Sinfônica de Porto Alegre in Brazil. Performance has been just as constant. I've played drum set & percussion in over thirty-five musical theater pits—including a summer as house drummer doing seven shows a week for ten weeks—toured twenty-five cities as a drummer, keyboardist, and vocalist while music directing and tour managing that band, played principal percussion in a collegiate wind ensemble, improvised live for university ballet and modern technique classes, and performed & conducted with a professional contemporary chamber ensemble where I also served as Operations Director. Drums, keys, guitar, bass, voice; folk & jazz to punk & electronic indie-pop to contemporary concert music. All of that comes with me into the studio and into my teaching. Composing from full orchestra to solo instruments has made me deeply aware of textural, orchestrational, formal, harmonic, and rhythmic constructs; playing that music has made me just as aware of what actually survives contact with a room, a deadline, and an audience. Many musicians can sense that something isn't working. My priority is to be the specialist who can articulate precisely what it is, why, and what to do about it—clearly and supportively. That's really what I teach. Logic Pro from a blank session to a finished master; composition, theory, songwriting & lyrics, arranging, mixing—but underneath all of it, decision-making. We work on your material, not exercises. My goal is to help you make well-educated, intuitive decisions, so the artistic message you're striving for gets delivered the way you intended.

Performance experience includes regular sub at the SF Symphony and SF Ballet orchestras while in grad school. In 2022 I won the position of Principal Bassist in the Charleston Symphony (tenured in 2024) and also worked as Audition Committee Member, Program Notes Author, Development Ambassador, and Finance Committee Member at the CSO as well as Adjunct Professor at the College of Charleston. I attended the Aspen Music Festival on full scholarship as a Leadership Fellow in 2022 and the National Orchestra Institute in 2021. Was a finalist for auditions at the San Francisco Symphony, Seattle Symphony, North Carolina Symphony and Baltimore Symphony.
