I met Samar in 2015 as an undergraduate at Brooklyn College during a summer research program at Stanford, where she was the program coordinator. At the time, I was still assessing whether pursuing a PhD was realistic for me. Samar offered thoughtful, candid feedback on my graduate school applications, helping me sharpen my personal statement, clarify my research interests, and strengthen my letters of recommendation. Her guidance gave me a clearer strategy and concrete steps I could take to improve. I was later accepted into Stanford’s PhD program in Bioengineering and received interviews at UCSD and NYU. What sets Samar apart is not only her experience but her character. She is empathetic, grounded, and deeply invested in the people she mentors.
