I’m Mercedes, an MBA admissions coach with a background from MIT and Bain and deferred admission to Stanford GSB and other top MBA programs. I help applicants develop clear, compelling application narratives rooted in their values, goals, and lived experiences. My clients have been admitted to top business schools including Stanford and MIT, with a particular specialization in Stanford’s MBA application and essays. Coming from a non-target undergraduate institution and non-target work place I secured admission at MIT and Harvard and know how difficult it is to do so. I can help you tell your story and really stand out. I make things accessible and break them down into bite sized goals to help you put your best foot forward. While in my MBA program I worked at Bridgewater Associates and then had offers from Goldman Sachs TMT SF and Morgan Stanley Tech Investment banking groups. I also won the P.D. Soros Fellowship for New Americans (1% acceptance rate, $90,000) and the Zuckerman Fellowship (full ride at Harvard + Stanford), which helped fund a large part of my graduate degree.

I have in depth experience in coaching and mentoring, specifically in the MBA admissions space. I've gone through the process myself with huge success, I've coached prospective students through private coaching, as part of corporate coaching programs, and in support of the HBS admissions process. The reason I think I stand out and have found success as a coach is because I work hard to gain a true understanding of the applicant; to understand their motivations, values, drivers, strengths, and weaknesses. All of that is critical to craft a strong application for elite schools, but maybe more importantly it is critical to provide you the best support that I can. I coach prospective MBA applicants who are interested in media, entertainment, and how those industries intersect with the future of tech. Before business school, I worked in management consulting at PwC, and after earning my MBA from Harvard Business School, I successfully pivoted into a role at the intersection of media, entertainment, and technology at Meta. At HBS, I served as President of the Entertainment & Media Club and as VP of Admissions for the African American Student Union, and in both roles I coached students through the MBA decision process and application strategy. My approach is objective and practical, focused on “why MBA” clarity, career strategy, narrative development, and essay review, and I also help with test study strategy and prioritization as someone who took multiple approaches to reach the results I needed and understands that process deeply.

As an MBA graduate of Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management and a current 4th year medical student, I bring a healthcare-centric perspective to the MBA admissions process. Additionally, I'm only a few months removed from being a student admissions interviewer at Kellogg and also spent a year on the admissions committee at my medical school. Thus, I have useful experience on both sides of the admissions process. My goal is to be the go-to coach for those who want to use an MBA to work in the vast world of healthcare. I have always loved writing and crafting a compelling story. I worked in the Office of the CEO at BlackRock for several years, managing both the CEO and the firm’s narrative, and I understand how to appeal to a professional audience while finding space for personality and passion to shine through. I managed my own MBA application process and was admitted to Stanford, Harvard, and Wharton.
