Welcome, bienvenidos, bem-vindos! I graduated with two bachelor's degrees from an Ivy League university (the University of Pennsylvania's Huntsman Program in International Studies and Business), and have served as an alumni interviewer ever since. I can help you with the college application process - anything from positioning your profile to tips and tricks on essay writing to narrowing down which school you'd like to attend. Also, I am trilingual - I'm a native English speaker originally from the United States, but I have lived and worked in Mexico and Brazil and am happy to help out in English, Spanish, or Portuguese. Hello! I've gone through the application process for getting into school 4 times in the past decades. I've earned degrees from Stanford University (BS), Georgia Institute of Technology (MS), and Harvard University (MBA and MS). I especially enjoy writing and editing essays; I had my undergraduate essay for Stanford featured in a book titled "50 successful Stanford Application Essays : Write Your Way Into the College of your Choice", was a finalist for the Boothe Prize for Excellence in Freshman Writing, and scored in the 99% percentile for verbal reasoning on both the GMAT and SAT. I've also had the honor and privilege of serving as an Admissions Interview Volunteer for my alma mater for a few years. As a result of all of this experience, I believe that I have a deep understanding of the college admissions process and what it takes to get into a great university. I have a track record of helping students achieve their goals, whether it's through mentoring programs like Big Brothers Big Sisters or facilitating workshops with organizations like /dev/color. I've had experience as a teaching assistant at Stanford and done research work in graduate education so I have a unique perspective on the challenges students face and how to overcome them. When I was an undergraduate at Harvard I started helping students apply to top schools, and then was a full-time admissions coach for exceptional Chinese high school students in Beijing. On paper, I am a Princeton college graduate, and a Stanford MBA graduate - as well as the less conventional qualification of being an admitted Ph.D. student in Anthropology at UC Irvine. More importantly to me, I grew up in a working class community, and applied to these programs with few paths tread ahead of me to set an example. For that reason, I'm passionate about working with students who are developing their voice and narrative in the application process - because with such competitive programs out there, anyone can often feel like an underdog. To date, most of my coaching has been with low-income students who have lacked extensive resources, so I am most supportive in framing narratives in ways that hint at the unique, if sometimes scrappy, qualifications of a student. I like to focus on the whole picture that an applicant brings to the table, from individual traits, to passions, to family background - alongside all the standard materials an application holds. I believe in going to school without going into debt—and I’ve done it myself. I earned full-ride offers to Case Western Reserve, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and the Illinois Institute of Technology, along with 34 outside scholarships when I applied to college. I also attended graduate school at Parsons with a full scholarship. Since then, I’ve helped students gain admission to competitive undergraduate and graduate programs, including Harvard, The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and top engineering and tech schools.
