About Jennifer
A former first-generation college student who benefited greatly from a near full ride at the University of Pennsylvania, Jennifer is passionate about helping students navigate the college admissions process and fulfill their potential. Her two decades of admissions experience began while serving as an Admissions Officer at her alma mater before reading applications for the highly selective USC Bovard Scholars program. Having reviewed thousands of exceptional applications, Jennifer understands the necessity of creating a narrative that both distinguishes a candidate and resonates with the reader. Through every step of the process, from course selection and creating a standardized testing plan to innovation projects and leadership positions, she helps students foster their individual growth and have an impact on their communities. She also loves working with students to craft authentic, purpose-driven essays that show colleges what they have to offer—and, of course, celebrating with them when they are accepted! Jennifer’s background as an educator has been multifaceted, and she brings this breadth of experience to her work at Leland. As former Director of Tutoring at The Princeton Review of Southern Florida, where she taught SAT, ACT, and LSAT and graded over 85,000 essays for their LiveGrader service, Jennifer gained unique insight into standardized test prep. She is a Founding Director of Bright Kids, a K-8 Test Prep and Admissions company based in NYC, and also holds her teaching certification in K-8 Special Ed through the Newark Teaching Fellowship. These well-rounded professional experiences as an educator enhance her work with Tokyo Academics students and have resulted in her annually supporting multiple students in gaining admissions to every Ivy + Top 20 school. When not advising her students at Tokyo Academics, you can find Jennifer top roping or bouldering at her local gym. She also enjoys her continued affiliation with CBO USC Bovard Scholars as a Curriculum Developer for their Pre Med Academy and Lead Essay Editor, supporting underrepresented high schoolers and undergraduates in the college and medical school admissions processes. Annually, she supports multiple students’ admissions into every Ivy + Top 20 school. 80% of her students gain admissions to a Top 3 choice school; 100% to a Top 8 Choice. Her highest school acceptance numbers include Stanford, Harvard, Princeton, Brown, Chicago, UPenn, Johns Hopkins, MIT, Duke, UMich, USC, NYU, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UT Austin, Northeastern, and Georgia Tech
Why do I coach?
I coach because the college admissions process has become far more complicated than it needs to be. Expectations shift constantly, policies change from year to year, and critical information is often scattered, outdated, or quietly gatekept by those who already know how the system works. For students and families encountering it for the first time, this complexity can feel overwhelming and deeply unfair. I’ve seen how much unnecessary stress this creates, especially for thoughtful, capable students who assume they are missing something simply because no one has clearly explained the process to them. Too often, confidence erodes not because students lack ability, but because they lack transparent guidance. That imbalance is what motivates my work. Coaching, for me, is about demystifying admissions. I believe students do their best work when they understand what is being asked of them and why. My goal is to replace anxiety with clarity, pressure with strategy, and confusion with informed decision-making. When families understand the landscape, they can focus less on fear and more on fit, growth, and long-term goals. I don’t see coaching as “gaming the system.” I see it as translating a complex, ever-changing process into something humane and manageable. When students feel supported and informed, they are able to approach college admissions with confidence, perspective, and far less stress. That transformation is why this work matters to me.
