Hi, I'm Alice! I have extensive experience both writing and editing essays and working one-on-one with students as a mentor and in college prep, and would love to help you on your journey preparing your college application. In 2019, I graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and minors in Journalism and Humanistic Studies. My thesis, which was part philosophy and part journalism, was awarded the McCosh Prize for the best undergraduate thesis in any area of philosophy. At Princeton, I did extensive audio journalism, reporting, and art, including illustration and design for the weekly newspaper. I'm now working part-time towards my Master of Public Administration in Sustainability at Middlebury Institute of International Studies. Since graduating, I've lived in both Chicago and New York to work in impact, housing, and community development finance, and spent two years with Crimson Education to help students find a balanced spread of extracurricular activities, create leadership projects, and pursue reading and enrichment studies to suit their particular academic interests. I also serve as a mentor for recent Princeton graduates and current students working in public service, and each year, I interview high school students applying to Princeton as a volunteer for the Alumni Schools Committee. I love working one-on-one with students to help them find and pursue their passions, and I'm skilled at helping others find the narrative thread in their story. I graduated from the University of Oxford with First Class Honours in English Language and Literature— the highest academic distinction in the UK system. While at Oxford, I tutored part-time, and I now work as a freelance tutor with students across both the UK and the US. For bright American students, the most prestigious UK universities—Oxford, Cambridge, St Andrews, Edinburgh, Durham, UCL—deserve serious consideration. Yet the application process often feels mystifying from a US perspective. UK admissions place a premium on subject focus: the personal statement is academic and concise, and applicants are judged almost entirely on subject-specific potential. This means that many students who may feel lost in the highly extracurricular-driven US system could in fact be very strong candidates for top UK universities. However, expert, UK-specific guidance remains hard to find in the US, particularly for Oxbridge. My role is to demystify this process and provide clear, no-nonsense support, from personal statement coaching to interview preparation and application strategy. I know what works! My specialism is in English, but I have also guided students successfully through personal statements and interview preparation for a range of humanities subjects, from History and Politics to Philosophy and Classics. Additionally, my leadership roles in political campaigns have helped hone my ability to mentor and manage, which I apply to support students in achieving their academic goals. I earned full-ride offers to Case Western Reserve, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and the Illinois Institute of Technology, along with 34 outside scholarships when I applied to college.
