I've been coaching the GMAT for almost as long as distance learning has been around. However, my story really starts in 2006, the year I notched a nifty 770 on my GMAT and received a scholarship to the USC - Marshall School of Business. In the following years, I made the Graduate Dean's list in 3 semesters, and excelled at such courses as Microeconomics, Corporate Finance, and Statistics. My general academic interests fun rather parallel to the topics of the GMAT, and I sincerely feel that any incoming b-school student should have excellent capabilities in reading comprehension, argumentation, and college level quantitative skills. In the decade I've been coaching students in the GMAT, I've worked with nearly 250 people over a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds, and thus have dozens of success stories from students who succeeded in increasing their scores by 100+ points! I have had a wide variety of students, but I would consider my niche to be veterans/active military, folks with learning disabilities, and those in search of a scholarship

My intuitive, common-sense approach to the GMAT has helped numerous students get top scores since 2011. I emphasize comprehension rather than memorization: Instead of just giving you rules to remember, I help you figure out why they work. There's no magic formula that makes the GMAT easy, but with my techniques, it won't feel too hard. A good GMAT tutor should meet students where they are, and I always strive to do this. If you know a concept but struggle to apply it to certain tricky problems, I can help you with that. Alternatively, if you need something explained from the ground up, I can help with that too. I am flexible enough to work within your mental framework, rather than imposing something completely unfamiliar. My goal is to find explanations and methods that work for you, even if they aren’t entirely standard. I'll make sure to warn you if you're heading in a wrong direction, but for the most part I view GMAT tutoring as an opportunity to help you leverage skills that you already have. I've found this to be a very rewarding process, and I think you will too!

The only way to do well on the GMAT and the GRE is to understand the material and to know how to answer the questions. Cheats and guessing strategies don’t work, and you can’t “beat” or “outsmart” the tests. I am a Certified Teacher who has taught the material that appears on these tests in school. MY APPROACH IS TO TEACH YOU THE CONCEPTS AND SKILLS YOU NEED TO ANSWER THE TEST QUESTIONS CORRECTLY. I scored in the 99th percentile on the GMAT and the SAT, and I have a thorough understanding of the tests. I am a writer, with excellent language skills. As a Certified Teacher, I have 20-plus years’ experience as a teacher, tutor, test prep coach, and business trainer. I am a former teacher of high school math – exactly the math that appears on the tests – and of English grammar and writing. I am a trained and certified teacher. I have a Bachelor of Education degree and Adult Education training. I also have an MBA and have worked on Wall St as a Vice President at a major financial institution, as well as in several other business and management positions.

I’ve been teaching the GMAT since 2006 and the GRE since 2009. Over the years I’ve created a vast collection of slides, notes, and handouts for you. But I don’t believe in being complacent – in fact I’m constantly trying to improve through further study, research, and innovation. When I worked for a test-prep company I wrote a 270-page manual on Verbal problems, to help train the company’s teachers and textbook writers. To keep my math skills sharp, I regularly take college-level math courses. Right now I’m also redesigning my whole Critical Reasoning curriculum. For me the most exciting thing about teaching is that moment when a student suddenly understands a concept. To make those “aha!” moments happen, I carefully tailor my lessons to each student’s knowledge level and learning style.
