I’ve been teaching the GMAT since 2006 and the GRE since 2009. Over the years I’ve created a vast collection of slides, notes, and handouts for you. But I don’t believe in being complacent – in fact I’m constantly trying to improve through further study, research, and innovation. When I worked for a test-prep company I wrote a 270-page manual on Verbal problems, to help train the company’s teachers and textbook writers. To keep my math skills sharp, I regularly take college-level math courses. Right now I’m also redesigning my whole Critical Reasoning curriculum. For me the most exciting thing about teaching is that moment when a student suddenly understands a concept. To make those “aha!” moments happen, I carefully tailor my lessons to each student’s knowledge level and learning style. I scored a 755 (100th percentile) on the GMAT Focus Edition, with a V90, and tutor across all three sections, though I have the most experience with Verbal and DI. I like to think of the GMAT as a test of decision-making under time pressure, not raw intelligence. My emphasis is on question-solving strategies — how to read efficiently, eliminate decisively, and manage time without rushing or freezing. I like the GMAT! I enjoy the challenge of GMAT puzzles and the satisfaction of developing effective skills to solve them. I've been helping students to improve their scores for 10 years, and have developed some creative ways for students to overcome the intellectual and emotional challenges of taking the test.

My intuitive, common-sense approach to the GMAT has helped numerous students get top scores since 2011. I emphasize comprehension rather than memorization: Instead of just giving you rules to remember, I help you figure out why they work. There's no magic formula that makes the GMAT easy, but with my techniques, it won't feel too hard. A good GMAT tutor should meet students where they are, and I always strive to do this. If you know a concept but struggle to apply it to certain tricky problems, I can help you with that. Alternatively, if you need something explained from the ground up, I can help with that too. I am flexible enough to work within your mental framework, rather than imposing something completely unfamiliar. My goal is to find explanations and methods that work for you, even if they aren’t entirely standard. I'll make sure to warn you if you're heading in a wrong direction, but for the most part I view GMAT tutoring as an opportunity to help you leverage skills that you already have. I've found this to be a very rewarding process, and I think you will too!
