I have a degree in English from the University of Cambridge, and I am a former news journalist, relentless reader, avid writer, and Stanford MBA. My first law school client came from a military background. We worked together from the get-go on her Personal Statement, Optional and Diversity Statements, resume, and preparing for interviews. When I first thought of going to law school, I thought it was a terrible idea. Student loans, bad job outcomes, and attorneys’ frequent malaise. But then I did the research. I learned how to crack the code of law school admissions, and understood how to achieve a legal career without breaking the bank. I'll never forget the day I set foot on Harvard Law School's campus. I hadn't gone to a brand-name undergrad. It seemed like everyone else at the admitted students day knew each other; I didn't know anyone. But it didn't matter. You don’t need connections to get into law school; you need strategy. I am a federal clerk and a graduate magna cum laude from Harvard Law School. I also hold a BA from Bard College, and am a PhD student in the Harvard sociology department. I know first-hand how stressful the JD application process is, and how to successfully navigate it. I know what admissions committees look for. And I know how to present your credentials—and build them—the way successful applicants do. As a coach, my approach is bottom-up. If you’re at the beginning of your application process, let's start by assessing your goals, generating a list of programs from there, and then thinking strategically about how to maximize your chances of admission at each program you apply to. If you’re further along, let’s look at your materials and work them into top shape. If you have interviews scheduled, we’ll practice them so you can start off on the right foot with schools you’re interested in. I'll be entering Yale Law School this fall as a Truman Scholar and Paul & Daisy Soros Fellow. As a first-gen applicant, I've spent years learning this process, inside and out: what makes for a winning personal statement, the way an addendum or supplemental essay can reframe an entire application, and what it actually takes to build a narrative that feels true to you—while speaking the language that admissions committees respond to. A lot of law school coaches went through the admissions process years, if not decades, ago. As a YLS Launchpad Scholar from 2024 to 2026, I received cutting-edge, comprehensive advice from admissions officers at T14s around the country. Ultimately, in the 2026 application cycle (which is widely regarded as the most competitive in history), I gained admission to Yale, Stanford, Chicago, UVA, Penn, Berkeley, and Duke. As someone who didn't originally plan to attend law school and came from a background in foreign affairs and international politics, I understand what it's like to navigate the application process as a non-traditional candidate. During my time at YLS, I discovered my passion for mentorship through my teaching assistant roles in Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, and International Law. I was admitted to several top law schools with full-ride scholarships, and participated in several prestigious pre-law fellowships. I am uniquely equipped to support students with a goal of attending law school directly from undergrad (KJD), because I did so myself! After graduating from Cal Lutheran in just 3 years, I was an SEO Law Fellow before starting at Georgetown, where I am now working with our Corporate and Financial Law Organization, our Entertainment Law Society, and our International Economic Law Society. In addition, I am a student ambassador for our admissions office, and a panelist for our early outreach program.

I am currently attending Stanford Law School, after having received admission to several other T14 law schools and some very generous scholarships. I deferred law school for a year to obtain a Masters at Oxford University on a full scholarship from Columbia University. I have extensive experience in editing application essays and resumes for mentees and friends, and several of these people have gone on to win prestigious fellowships or gain admission at T5 law schools such as Columbia Law School. I am committed and detail-oriented – key components in crafting compelling law school applications. I am a Yale Law School, Bain & Co., and Yale College alum who is passionate about helping applicants tell their stories. As someone who navigated the nuances of competitive admissions alone, I understand the frustration of feeling overwhelmed by forum posts, wondering what to make of conflicting information, and puzzling over how generic advice applied to my unique situation. And as someone who has been on the other side reviewing resumes and interviewing candidates, I also understand what stands out (and what doesn't). I became an admissions coach to help students overcome application-season anxiety and to develop confidence in the decisions they make on their application. I want to help you, too. I'm a recent Yale Law School graduate with extensive writing and editing experience. I've written briefs in federal appeals, served as an editor for the Yale Law Journal, and authored scholarship that is forthcoming in the Yale Law Journal and the University of Pennsylvania Law Review. Before that, I studied political science at Williams College, where I graduated summa cum laude as one of the top four students in my class. I applied to law school straight through from college, and I was admitted to Yale, Stanford, and Harvard. I'm now completing a one-year fellowship in appellate defense before I begin two federal clerkships. Given my background, I'm particularly interested in helping those interested in public-interest law. Daniel Khalessi served as President of the Stanford Law Review and is a startup and venture capital lawyer at Sidley Austin LLP in San Francisco. He is passionate about helping others turn their personal experiences into powerful stories and achieve their dreams. Having lost his Dad at a young age, Daniel understands what it is like to overcome challenges. A product of Bay Area public schools, Daniel earned a B.A. from Stanford, M.A. in Global Affairs from Yale, M.A. in Economics (China Studies) from Peking University, and his J.D. from Stanford Law School, where he served as a Teaching Assistant in constitutional law and earned prizes for outstanding performance. He previously worked as a startup lawyer at Latham & Watkins LLP and as a China analyst at Harvard's Belfer Center.
