As an ex-MBB consultant, I reached out to Jamie via Leland for mentorship and guidance in putting together a few slides for an executive of a leading company with whom I had been connected, as a means of showcasing my interest in taking on a strategy role there. I knew that I would want to work with an MBB manager - as it was a dynamic that I was used to from my past experience - in order to make sure that what I sent to the executive truly would be value-add to their business, bolstering my shot at securing a role. Jamie - a former McKinsey manager - exceeded my expectations by a longshot. From the outset, he guided me as if we were working on a miniature case together at an MBB firm for a cient, with the folllowing areas being most worth mentioning: Structure: He served as an incredibly incisive sounding board on the nature of the recommednation I would look to put forth to the exec, and then aligned on the kinds of slide views that I would develop. Feedback: His feedback was nothing short of INCREDIBLE. It was crisp, targeted (with illustrative examples), and well-reasoned such that I myself developed as a better strategic thinker during this period. Timing: He pushed me to deliver on the pre-agreed timeline to make sure that I delivered on this ambitious plan, without psyching myself out and wasting time in the process, while also making it clear that he was always ready to hop on a call and talk through potential roadblocks in my analysis. At the end of the project, I had developed into a better thinker, able to send what I was confident would be a value-add and well-substantiated strategy to the executive. For those ex-consultants that are searching for strategy roles - or those that are looking to simply develop their consulting toolkit - I cannot recommend Jamie enough. Finding a coach that pushes you to become an effective problem solver, one who can move enterprise, is rare. Jamie is just that kind of coach.
