The only way to do well on the GMAT and the GRE is to understand the material and to know how to answer the questions. Cheats and guessing strategies don’t work, and you can’t “beat” or “outsmart” the tests. I am a Certified Teacher who has taught the material that appears on these tests in school. Carl has taught, literally, thousands of students to succeed on the GRE, and thousands more the ACT, SAT, LSAT, and GMAT, over a career spanning over two decades in the test preparation world. Originally an academic, he holds advanced degrees from Yale, the University of Glasgow, and the University of Georgia, and since leaving academia he has taught, tutored, and written content for Magoosh, Kaplan, Harvard Prep, SuccessPrep, Parliament Tutors, Varsity Tutors, and many other companies, and has since founded his own company, Ivory Tower Tutoring. He was also, for many years, the chief writer for Barron''s GMAT product line.

Clients preparing for the GRE are generally motivated and ready to work hard to attain their desired score. Where I come in as a coach is not only with subject matter knowledge, but the ability to help you focus your preparation and make the best use of your time. I'll also teach you strategies specific to the test—the way questions are worded and the way passages are structured can often give you important clues once you know what to look for. Furthermore, I have many years of experience as a classroom teacher and tutor, especially in math. I am able to draw on those other experiences to help GRE students by suggesting other resources to shore up particular areas that need work. Many of my GRE students have strengthened their mathematical problem-solving ability by going outside the bounds of GRE prep books; they were then able to apply these skills to the actual GRE.
