The only way to do well on the GMAT and the GRE is to understand the material and to know how to answer the questions. Cheats and guessing strategies don’t work, and you can’t “beat” or “outsmart” the tests. I am a Certified Teacher who has taught the material that appears on these tests in school. MY APPROACH IS TO TEACH YOU THE CONCEPTS AND SKILLS YOU NEED TO ANSWER THE TEST QUESTIONS CORRECTLY. I scored in the 99th percentile on the GMAT and the SAT, and I have a thorough understanding of the tests. I am a writer, with excellent language skills. As a Certified Teacher, I have 20-plus years’ experience as a teacher, tutor, test prep coach, and business trainer. I am a former teacher of high school math – exactly the math that appears on the tests – and of English grammar and writing. I am a trained and certified teacher. I have a Bachelor of Education degree and Adult Education training. I also have an MBA and have worked on Wall St as a Vice President at a major financial institution, as well as in several other business and management positions.

I have been tutoring GMAT Verbal for 10 years and have very clear and precise strategies that have helped dozens of students achieve their goals. As a lover of language, a teacher of English, and a writer myself, I have the skills to integrate all things verbal with the necessary standardized test taking methods.

My first score was in the 50th percentile. I studied my way to 99th percentile, so it's definitely possible. I have a 99th percentile score on the GMAT, GRE, and SAT, and have taught for Manhattan Prep, Kaplan, and Target Test Prep. I don't just teach the content. I teach how to think. I have a Masters in Education from Harvard and have written a book on the mental approach to standardized tests.

Between the actual exams, tryout exams for jobs, and personal diagnostic exams, I have never scored below 99th-percentile on the LSAT, GMAT, nor GRE. I started in the industry in 2002 with Kaplan, and founded my own company in 2005. I was one of Veritas's (acquired by Varsity Tutors as their elite program) first instructors and a go-to instructor for most of their existence, teaching literally coast-to-coast until moving off of their grid in 2017. Career highlights include successfully writing and then teaching my own LSAT course, teaching over a dozen GMAT classes at Booth School of Business at University of Chicago, and tutoring around Silicon Valley at locations such as the Google campus, Stanford, and the San Francisco Financial District. In short, I've taught and tutored thousands of students within the elite model used by Veritas, Manhattan, and others, in which the highest-scoring instructors teach in small classrooms and focus on higher-end analytic aspects of the exam. I wrote my own LSAT course, and I contributed to the highly-regarded Veritas course and books. My students have gone on to attend the best law and business schools in the world. I've been building and investing in companies for the past decade. After graduating from Yale, I had a couple stints in consulting and global health before finding my way to startups. I started two companies, one a surplus food marketplace and the other in office management software. Neither was extraordinarily successful, but gave me a taste for helping companies go 0-1 and allowed me to meet some exceptional founders and builders. I started angel investing, realized I enjoyed investing/advising, and went to Wharton/Lauder with the intent of exploring venture capital (and to get better at Chinese). While in business school, I met Contrary and started working full time while still in my 2nd year. After graduating, I stayed on, became a partner 1.5 years in, and led deals in a number of great companies (Orchard Robotics, Nomic, Endeavor AI, etc.). I transitioned to a board partner/advisor role this past summer and have spent most of my time since helping build companies and continuing to angel invest. My angel portfolio includes companies like Ramp, Warp, Clara, Slingshot AI, and many others.

With 5+ years experience as a GMAT Private Tutor at Menlo Coaching (#1 in GMAT Test Prep globally), I have now been successfully providing elite online GMAT tutoring services to top MBA candidates worldwide for 25+ years. I spent a VERY long time studying the GMAT only to come up very short on GMAT math. Twice.
