Founder of highly successful Pre-Med Prep, a med school admissions service designed to helped Pre-Meds get into medical school. I am a Physician in Neurology in a top program in the US. For years I have helped students achieve their dreams in getting into medical school and now I have joined Leland to continue helping students achieve their dreams of becoming doctors. I am here to help you create the best possible application to medical school, residency, or fellowship. As a physician myself, not only have I gone through the process of applying to medical school and Residency but have been on an admissions committee in the past where i received key insights directly into the admission process. Over the last 6 years, I have helped over 400 students gain admission into medical school, guiding them through the personal statement, secondaries, interviews, scholarships and beyond. I have worked with students from all walks of life including IMGs, non-traditional applicants, MD programs, and DO programs. I hold a PhD in Experimental Surgery from McGill University, a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Concordia University, Master of Science in Health Policy and Management from Harvard University, a Masters of Public Health from Imperial College London, and a Medical degree from Ain Shams University, Cairo. I have been a Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School, equipping me with deep insights into the medical field and a technical officer for the WHO. As the founder and CEO of Qalam Health Solutions, I understand the importance of strategic planning and decision-making. Over the years, I've successfully coached 101 aspiring medical students, helping them navigate the complex admissions process and secure spots at top medical schools. As the Assistant Dean for Diversity for the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania I was on its Admissions Committee and also served on the National Admissions Committee at the Association of American Medical Colleges for a while. As a result of these experiences, I developed expertise in advising students on their academic qualifications and extracurricular activities necessary for medical school acceptance. I've had much success helping students be accepted to top-tier medical schools which were: Penn, Harvard, Columbia, Case Western, Wake Forrest, Brown, UCLA and Jefferson.

l have been mentoring and coaching students in the undergraduate, medical, and medical residency application process for over 25 years. My clients have been accepted to outstanding schools such as Harvard College, Harvard Medical School, Stanford University School of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh, Stanford Neurosurgery Residency, and Yale Internal Medicine Residency. All of the medical school applicants I have worked with have received multiple interviews at the very top programs. I hold a PhD in English and American Literature (with a writing emphasis) (1982) and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (1986). I taught introductory and advanced writing at the University of Massachusetts for many years and also worked for over five years as a consultant/writer/editor at Arthur D. Little, a large Boston based consulting firm. In addition to my mentorship work and work as a writer, I am a Clinical Psychologist and have been working with young adult clients for some thirty years. While I am passionate about my clinical work, I honestly enjoy applying my skillset toward working through the essay writing and application process with those applying to college and medical school. This process requires some self reflection in order to create a convincing narrative, and I love guiding my clients through this process. My goals is always to help create the most convincing and well written essays-- essays that perfectly support the student’s application. In addition to helping clients with the essay components of the application process, I also have great insight into the "tricks" of structuring and presenting the activity section of the medical school application--so that you ultimately create a cohesive and convincing picture of what you have accomplished, who you are, and how you stand out.

I’ve worked with dozens of students applying to medical school and spent two years working with MD admissions. I’ve also served as a medical school interviewer. While I’m no longer affiliated and have no say in admissions decisions, I bring valuable insight into how the process works — with no conflict of interest. I was admitted to the three medical schools (all top programs) I applied to, with full financial support, and completed all my applications independently without external help. I can help you think through your story, select and frame impactful experiences, and craft an application that is personal, strategic, and compelling. I also guide students in supporting their recommenders to write strong letters and in building a narrative that holds together across all parts of the application. With over 20 years in medical education, I am a passionate coach and mentor to those seeking admission to medical school, as well as to medical students applying for residency programs. Having served as an MMI Interviewer I have a strong understanding of the qualities and traits that admissions committees are seeking. Working closely with medical students from first to fourth year, I have coached and mentored dozens of medical students as they navigate the residency application and interview process. I am particularly drawn to learners who are first generation college students and/or come from socio-economically challenged backgrounds. I believe medicine needs learners who reflect the patient populations they will serve and who bring intelligence, compassion, and a strong work ethic.
