There are a lot of parallels between consulting and product management - stakeholder management, business analysis, and problem-solving. Breaking into product management without a traditional tech background is tough. After eight years as a U.S. Army Black Hawk pilot, I went to MIT Sloan knowing I wanted to pivot into PM but having no connections in tech and no clear path to get there. I spent months learning frameworks, building side projects, and figuring out how to translate military leadership into language that resonated with tech hiring managers. I applied to well over 100 roles and collected plenty of rejections along the way before eventually landing a Product Manager role at Microsoft.
