Hey! My name is Milton, and although I'm originally from the East Coast, I've been living and working in Chicago for the last 2+ years. When I'm not working or coaching, I enjoy spending time cycling, climbing, or relaxing by the lake, as well as exploring the Midwest. I've been working in private equity for the past 2+ years and began my career in Big4 consulting before transitioning to investment banking. My goal in mentoring folks on Leland is to provide the foundation and mentorship I wish existed when I was making my way from a non-target school to investment banking, and ultimately to private equity. Over the years, I've had the privilege of coaching both students and young professionals, helping them navigate the complexities of IB and PE recruiting. Welcome to my profile! With 5 years in investment banking and private equity, I bring experience to help you navigate private equity and investment banking recruiting. I currently work as an Associate at Silver Lake in their New York office, following my tenure as an Investment Banking Associate and Analyst at Moelis & Company in their Los Angeles and New York offices where I was heavily involved in recruiting. Over the years, I've successfully coached many individuals, guiding them through the intricacies of private equity recruitment and helping them secure positions at top firms. I served as a Director of Mentorship at Trojan Investing Society (USC's largest finance organization), where I mentored a cohort of 30 students navigating investment banking recruiting. I also was a Peer Career Advisor at USC's Career Services Center where I guided students through finance careers including investment banking and investing. Post-grad, I've also mentored individuals as part of SEO, Women in Network, and Synergist Network. Mentorship is a huge passion of mine given I would not be here without the help of my mentors! Roles in Investment Banking, Private Equity, Hedge Fund / Crossover, and as a General Partner / Independent Sponsor all have provided different but relevant skills / lessons for usage in professional investing. Private investing experience spanning traditional private equity, growth investing, and late-stage growth / pre-IPO rounds. I now manage a small investment firm in a founder capacity, having launched a private equity style independent sponsor focused on majority acquisitions in the lower middle market. We have executed investments and are in the process of executing on additional platforms, while constantly looking for add-ons to our existing businesses. My founder / independent sponsor angle enables me to provide some unique insight that extends beyond the typical 'breaking in' and 'due diligence' type topics and into things like capital raising, interfacing with our LPs / investors, assessment of categories, different strategies of deployment (e.g. roll-up, value vs. growth, organic vs. inorganic growth strategy), etc. This role also results in oversight of the operating companies and extends my involvement into operations and marrying the function of the sponsor with the operating company.

I broke into private equity at 19, landed an investment banking job offer mid-flight, and joined KKR straight out of undergrad. Since then, I’ve led ~$3B in deals across buyout, growth, and venture, working directly with founders, CEOs, and billion-dollar funds. I’ve spent my career working in private equity and investment banking, and I try to bring that real-world perspective into how I coach. Most recently, I was a Private Equity Associate at The Carlyle Group, where I worked on multi-billion dollar investments, built models, and partnered closely with management teams through the full investment process. Before that, I was an Investment Banking Analyst at Moelis & Company, where I developed a strong technical foundation in valuation and deal execution. I’m currently finishing my MBA at Harvard Business School and will be joining a private equity firm as a Vice President, so I have a clear, up-to-date view on what actually matters in recruiting today. I’ve also spent a lot of time mentoring and helping others navigate the process, which has shaped how I approach coaching. My focus isn’t just on getting you to the “right answer,” but on helping you think like an investor—building the judgment, communication skills, and intuition that top private equity firms are really looking for.

I am a consumer and residential services investor, proud Duke alumnus, and current Wharton MBA. I have previously worked across buyout PE and growth at TSG Consumer and Roark Capital, consumer and retail consulting at BCG, and investment banking at Morgan Stanley. I bring five years of Private Equity experience in London at a leading mid-market fund, where I evaluated hundreds of companies and worked on transactions totaling over $1 billion in enterprise value. I was the only woman on the investment team of ~50 professionals and was promoted to Investment Manager within 2.5 years, the first female at my firm to reach that level. I served as a board observer and worked closely with management teams on growth strategy, acquisitions, and operational improvements, from SaaS pricing and go-to-market design to senior hiring. Because I’ve sat on the investor side of the table, I understand exactly how investment committees think, what makes a deal compelling, and why strong candidates sometimes get rejected.
