Working with Tom made a huge difference in my MBA application process. As someone coming from the submarine community, I knew I had a solid background - but so do a lot of vets applying to business school. Tom helped me pull out the parts of my story that felt personal and fresh, not just impressive on paper. We went through several rounds of edits on my essays, and Tom was hands-on the whole way - he helped me step back and rethink the overall message, and then zeroed in on specific word choices to make sure every sentence carried weight. His feedback made the GSB essay sharper, but it also gave me a stronger foundation that I used across a bunch of other applications. What really stood out was how much Tom knew about Stanford specifically - he pointed me toward a few lesser-known programs and resources at GSB that tied directly into my goals, and helped me talk about them in a way that didn’t feel forced. That kind of insight is hard to come by unless someone’s really lived the experience. I’m excited to be heading to HBS this fall, and there’s no doubt that Tom’s guidance helped me put my best foot forward. If you’re a vet applying to business school - especially if you’re trying to make a common background stand out - he’s the guy you want in your corner.

As a Marine, MBA applications were certainly a new experience for me, but Tom broke things down in a way that made it all feel manageable. Even though he didn’t have a personal tie to Vanderbilt, he asked the right questions and helped me dig into why it was the right place for me - and how to show that in my essays. His edits were sharp, his advice was honest, and he never tried to make my story sound like anyone else’s. Highly recommend working with him.
