Sissi is a tranquil yet fiery force to be reckoned with, and my life is forever changed for having worked with her. While it’s common to have people in your life who believe in you, and even those who push you to step out of your comfort zone, it’s not often that you encounter someone who also has the specific expertise and industry knowledge to help you operationalize your goals (a testament to Leland’s incredibly accurate pairing system.) I came to Leland with a unique query: how do I leverage an academic science career to build a new trajectory that enables me to work across various creative industries? I’ve struggled for years to piece together seemingly disparate interests, skills, and passions, and have often been told that I need to “choose a lane.” Sissi refuted this from the very beginning, and helped me to internalize the power that can be harnessed when you don’t pick a single lane and instead center that which aligns with your internal compass and brings you joy.
