Hi, I’m Ashley! I am based in New York City where I currently work in admissions at Teachers College, Columbia University. I was first drawn to the field of admissions during my time as a student at the University of Virginia. As a Senior Resident and an Admission Ambassador at UVA, I had the opportunity to closely guide hundreds of students in navigating their first year of college, and I found these experiences to be incredibly rewarding. Since then, I have happily developed my admissions career at TC for the past 11 years, including earning a Master of Arts degree in Higher Education along the way! At Teachers College, I am a Senior Associate Director of Admission, liaising with the Counseling and Clinical Psychology Department as well as leading our virtual recruitment initiatives. I find so much joy in connecting with our prospective students to help them understand how their interests and strengths may translate into an exceptional application. On the other side of the process, I regularly feel inspired while reviewing the applications of these vibrant students, who often desire to make a beneficial impact on society. While it is a privilege for me to help shape a new cohort of dynamic students, I feel equally honored to assist applicants in discovering their unique voice within the application process. Outside of Teachers College, I spent a year working with a private college counseling company where I counseled and mentored high school students through the entire undergraduate admission process. In this role, I assisted students in researching institutions of interest, creating a balanced school list aligned with their academic goals, gathering and crafting required application materials for each school, and submitting polished materials. My students were successfully admitted into wonderful schools such as Tufts, Georgia Tech, New York University, Georgetown, and UC Berkeley, just to name a few! I’m a former Teach For America Corps Member who successfully pivoted from the classroom into management consulting, most recently as a consultant at Deloitte. There, I led on-campus recruiting and served as an interviewer for early-career candidates, evaluating communication skills, problem-solving ability, and leadership potential across diverse applicant pools. I’ve also served on the student admissions committee at Johns Hopkins University, giving me firsthand insight into what highly selective schools look for in applicants. To date, I’ve coached 18 students through the college application process, helping them craft clear, compelling narratives that stand out authentically. I also specialize in guiding students on the responsible and effective use of AI in the essay-writing process, helping them leverage modern tools for brainstorming and structure while ensuring their final work remains original, personal, and admissions-safe. I provide soup-to-nuts application consulting. I have spent over a decade coaching students through undergraduate admissions — five years at Crimson Education focused on admissions strategy and extracurricular development, before that at Princeton Review, and more recently through my own practice, Edgewise Prep. My recent placements include Harvard College, Cornell, NYU, Columbia, and Yale, among others. 30+ top 10 admissions. My approach is built around a simple idea: original personalities produce original applications. I am not an essay factory, and I do not ghostwrite. Students write their own words — I coach the strategy, structure, and voice behind them. What I focus on is finding the thread that makes a candidacy coherent and memorable: the theme that runs through your activities, your essays, your recommenders, and your school list, so that admissions sees one consistent, compelling person rather than a list of credentials. Where I am particularly strong is extracurricular development — what I call the long game. Most consultants show up in senior year to polish essays. I work with students earlier, helping them identify what they genuinely care about, build real activities around those interests, and develop the kind of depth and recognition that admissions committees actually respond to. The goal is a T-shaped profile: one or two areas of clear excellence, surrounded by a complementary range of activities that show who you are as a full person. We build, not buy no pay-for-play research programs, no voluntourism, no manufactured credentials. I also believe in honest feedback. When an essay is weak, I say so. When an activity is fluff, we cut it. My job is to help you put forward the strongest, most authentic version of yourself — not to tell you what you want to hear. I studied at the University of Pennsylvania (M&T Program) and earned my MBA at MIT Sloan, so I have walked through the doors you are trying to walk through. I know what strong applications look like from the inside, and I know what makes them stand out.

I've spent over a decade on every side of the admissions table — as a Harvard PhD who taught over 30 courses to more than 1,000 undergraduates, reviewed admissions applications, and served as a Senior Advisor on the Tutorial and Advising Board. I've worked alongside Nobel-winning faculty and nationally recognized writers, and I know exactly what the candidacy profile of a student who gets in looks like. More than 300 of my students have been admitted to Stanford, Princeton, Brown, Vanderbilt, Cornell, NYU, UC Berkeley, UChicago, and many more. My approach is personal and narrative-driven. I help students uncover what makes them distinctive and build a cohesive application story — from Common App essays to activity lists to interview prep. I speak five languages and work especially well with international and multilingual families navigating an unfamiliar system.

I was admitted Early Decision to Duke University and also received the Regents Scholarship to every UC school I applied to (including Berkeley and UCLA). I had a 4.0 unweighted GPA in high school and a 4.0 GPA at Duke University, where I graduated summa cum laude with degrees in Classics and Computer Science. While I have been told I am a skilled writer, more importantly, I promise I can help you be a skilled writer as well, even if you aren't already. Writing doesn't come naturally to me, but after majoring in the classics and participating in academic debate, I have an excellent understanding of what makes writing persuasive and memorable—something I will help you apply to your college essays. GPA and extracurricular activities are important (and I will give you detailed and comprehensive advice on maximizing both of these aspects), but I guarantee that every student I coach will have not just excellent stats, but also a well-rounded application that will turn heads at any school.

Pitchman and award-winning writer: I have successfully coached 300+ students in the college admissions process, so I understand the nuances of crafting standout applications for admissions committees. Among other things, I help with essay writing (my specialty), school selection, resume and interview preparation, and overall application strategy. I have an MBA, with a marketing concentration. I also have undergrad and grad degrees in writing, including from Northwestern, and I wrote and edited essays and human-interest stories for news outlets for more than 20 years. In addition, I've taught resume writing and interview prep at two junior colleges and helped students there apply to 4-year universities.

In the last few years, I’ve helped several students build applications that tell a compelling story and stand out in highly competitive admissions pools.
