Marie is an incredible tutor, friend, and inspiration when it comes to standardized tests. I worked with her for the GMAT and GRE - specifically on Math/Quant. She is not only knowledgeable but is encouraging, holds her students accountable and helps them to achieve success through hard work, repetition and clear explanations. Marie always shows up to each session prepared and provides thoughtful and helpful insight into the respective test strategy and ways to solve problems. I am appreciative of Marie giving me the confidence to conquer the math sections!

Marie is an exceptional GMAT tutor. From the moment I first met her, I intuitively knew that I was working with someone who struck that perfect balance between mathematical ingenuity and teaching ability. I was referred to Marie by an admissions specialist after being unsatisfied with a generically assigned tutor from Varsity. Marie immediately analyzed my needs, crafted a rigorous curriculum, and refreshed me on the fundamentals I needed in order to score in the 700s on the GMAT. She taught me a completely different way of thinking about math— a few weeks in, she had me dreaming about prime numbers at night. Marie is an outstanding tutor! If you are looking for a knowledgeable, direct, candid, and prepared tutored, she is the best. Historically I have struggled with standardized tests and I knew I needed a strong tutor to help me prepare for the GRE. My brother worked closely with Marie and he was so happy with their dynamic and his progress, I quickly switched over to her. I was so impressed with Marie's preparation. She has a clear agenda, takes notes on topics you review, and assigns homework. Even as an adult student it is immensely helpful to have someone hold you accountable to your progress. For students looking to improve and for a tutor to push and challenge them, Marie is your go-to!

I have always dreamed of attending Duke University. Since high school, I have struggled with standardized testing, so when I decided to apply to Duke's Fuqua School of Business, I knew I primarily needed to focus on my GMAT score. At the beginning of the application process, I was scoring low-600s on my practice tests. Luckily, I came across Marie Bercik and began tutoring with her multiple times a week. She taught me skills that rapidly improved my verbal score, and I started consistently scoring in the 90th+ percentile in that section. I continued to struggle with the math section, though, but Marie had so much knowledge in the area, and my persistence and continued practice with her got me to a level where I was comfortable and scoring well. I ended up scoring in the 700+ range, and as a result, I was accepted to and am now attending my dream school, Duke, with a scholarship. I was also accepted to Emory's Goizueta Business School and Wake Forest's School of Business. I genuinely believe Marie is the best tutor for the GMAT, and I will forever be grateful that she helped me achieve my goal.

I hired Marie for GMAT tutoring because I was struggling to break 700 despite months of effort. I came from a competitive background (hamilton college + top tier mgmt consulting firm) and needed to hit my target of 730. Marie was able to nimbly pick up the curriculum with me, at my level, and diagnose / teach me the content I needed to learn in order to break 700. I ended up hitting 730 ahead of schedule and it was her lessons that made the critical difference. Highly recommend.

From the outset, I want to make it clear that I am beyond impressed with the services provided by Alex Southmayd. After working with Alex, I solidified the skills necessary to score extremely well on this test. I was able to garner important test-taking strategies, key intricacies of the test, all while building my confidence to take this test. It is also important to note that I attempted to utilize several other test-prep services in the past, none of which come close to those provided by Alex. On test day, I scored well above the scores needed for all of the programs I am applying to (very competitive scores needed - clinical psychology PHD programs); and I am certain that is a result of Alex's teaching. I found the sessions to be very helpful for my GRE score. Alex is a gifted teacher. He sets a non-judgement, upbeat vibe that's conduce to having productive sessions. He's invested in his students' success and is very engaging.

Alex Southmayd was a great tutor. He was very positive, encouraging and motivative, he guided me in all the areas where I needed more help. He always responded in a timely manner. The strategies he taught helped me to improve my reading skills. I would highly recommend working with him. It is really worth booking a couple sessions for attaining higher scores.
