I first met Joy during the fall of my senior year of college, as I was preparing to apply to 3 deferred MBA programs: HBS, GSB, and Wharton. From our first introductory call, Joy was clearly very enthusiastic about her role, the opportunity to help students, and the rewarding nature of crafting a cohesive story. Prior to officially signing up to work with her, I asked her a multitude of nuanced questions regarding my profile, academics, etc. Joy thoughtfully took the time to answer each and every one she could, many times contacting her personal network to attain expert answers to very specific questions. I found this early experience with Joy to be incredibly differentiated compared to other consultants I'd spoken with, showing me that her primary goal was my success, whether I partnered with her for the application process or not. Soon after, I formally signed up to work with her. From day 1 of formally working together, Joy took an incredibly deep dive into all aspects of my profile, many times becoming more versed in my background, clubs, academics, etc. than I even was. Right away, within our first few sessions, she was able to reference anecdotes from different parts of my life and connect the dots between stories or small bits of information I'd shared during different sessions. This made it clear to me that she was intently listening to every word I said and was genuinely trying to get to know me as best as possible, rather than developing a simple baseline understanding. Scheduling-wise, Joy was consistently available any day that I needed to work with her and masterfully guided our schedule so that I was allocated sufficient time to complete work products, while simultaneously pushing us forwards at an adequate pace. As the process progressed, it became even more clear to me that Joy is a master at storytelling and knows how to synthesize diverse ideas into a cohesive flow. From all my ramblings and random thoughts, she was able to help guide me towards understanding myself and my story at a much deeper level. She encouraged self-reflection, personal honesty, and openness that all collectively led to a very heartfelt and deeply resonating story than I would've never deemed possible at the outset of the process. Additionally, it is important to note that, beyond the formalities of helping craft a great application, Joy always made sure to ask about, remember, and reference unrelated items from my personal life. This made the entire process seem much more personable and put me at ease when approaching an otherwise potentially stressful application meeting. Finally, as the process neared a close, Joy did a phenomenal job of ensuring that all deadlines were easily met and that there was no unnecessary pressure leading up to hitting submit. As interviews rolled around, Joy and the Menlo platform as a whole, put me in touch with a phenomenal interview coach and Joy herself provided superb guidance for smoothly shifting my story from a written to verbal format. With Joy and Menlo's help, I felt extremely confident heading into each interview, understanding the nuances of each respective school's approach. By the end, I was lucky enough to receive offers from all 3 schools and could not be happier with my experience working with Joy. Overall, working with Joy was a 1000/10 experience and worth every penny. She revolutionized my process and made it all digestible and enjoyable. More than anything, she is a genuinely good person who takes an enormous amount of pride in delivering exceptional work, which emanates in every call / meeting conducted. She isn't working with clients to have their applications meet a certain threshold, she's helping clients create the best work product possibly imaginable. I will be recommending Joy to every single one of my friends applying to their MBAs during the normal cycle in a few years. Working with her should be a no-brainer for any serious candidate.
