Amy (Chencheng)’s AI Strategy & Transformation Qualifications
Experience level: Director
I spent a decade leading engineering at LinkedIn and Instacart. At Instacart, as an Engineering Director, I drove AI adoption across the most core shopping organization — including building the metrics and systems that allow us to monitor not only the adoption of AI but the org design, planning process to become AI-native. I've been in the rooms where "AI transformation" stops being a slide and becomes the actual work — org redesigns, role redefinitions, and the uncomfortable question of what leadership looks like when your team's output is increasingly machine-generated. I'm now leading growth in an AI-native startup — transforming the whole operation end-to-end (marketing, sales, engineering) and transforming myself alongside it. The frameworks I coach from aren't theoretical; I'm designing the same shifts my clients are navigating: what work AI agents do, what stays human, what compounds as the stack evolves, and how a leader's role rewrites itself through all of it. I also publish regularly on how tech leaders can navigate this transition — including the AI-Native Leader series on my Substack https://cc12170503.substack.com/s/ai-native-leader. My coaching focuses on the part of AI strategy most conversations skip: the identity work, the org-design work, and the specific question of what a tech leader's role actually becomes when the old playbook stops applying and the new one hasn't been written yet.

About Amy (Chencheng)
Every promotion is an identity rewrite — and nobody hands you the new rules. I’ve done it five times, from IC to Senior Engineering Manager at LinkedIn to Director at Instacart, and now again as I leave corporate to build something new. I spent a decade leading engineering orgs — reorgs, org design, calibration systems, AI adoption — and navigating the cross-functional complexity and politics that come with the role. What I learned is that the hardest part isn’t the job itself. It’s understanding the system you’re inside, especially when the rules quietly change. I coach from that lens. Not frameworks — pattern recognition. Across hundreds of conversations mentoring and coaching leaders, I kept seeing the same thing: high performers already operating at the next level, but not being seen that way. Not because they lack capability, but because they’re being misread — or playing by rules that no longer apply.
Why do I coach?
I coach because the moments that stayed with me most were never the promotions themselves. They were the moments when someone started to see themselves differently — with more clarity, more authority, and more range than they’d given themselves permission to claim. I know how disorienting leadership transitions can be, especially when the expectations change faster than anyone explains them. What I needed in those moments was not generic advice from the outside, but someone who understood the terrain from the inside. That person didn’t exist for me. I want to offer that kind of support now.
