I've assisted students in preparing for their LSAT and craft the credentials necessary to award them 1L spots at Harvard, Stanford, Georgetown, NYU, USC and many more top programs; additionally, I'm proud to state that other students of mine have won scholarships to attend schools such as the University of Houston, Penn State, Emory, U of Arizona and others. Carl has taught, literally, thousands of students to succeed on the LSAT, and thousands more the ACT, SAT, GRE, and GMAT, over a career spanning over two decades in the test preparation world. Originally an academic, he holds advanced degrees from Yale, the University of Glasgow, and the University of Georgia, and since leaving academia he has taught, tutored, and written content for Magoosh, Kaplan, Harvard Prep, SuccessPrep, Parliament Tutors, Varsity Tutors, and many other companies, and has since founded his own company, Ivory Tower Tutoring. He was also, for many years, the chief writer for Barron''s GMAT product line.

I'm a 99th-percentile LSAT scorer with a year of experience coaching students to reach their target scores on official LSAT administrations. On average, my students improve about 10 points from when we start working together to when they take the real test. My coaching philosophy is best described as “slow and steady wins the race”: I emphasize deep understanding, consistent practice, and long-term mastery over shortcuts and short-lived gains. If you want to go from feeling like the LSAT is the worst thing on Earth to feeling like it finally makes sense, I’m the coach for you.

Over the course of 5 years teaching the LSAT, I have honed my ability to break down seemingly complex LSAT concepts into easily digestible components. As someone who did not score particularly high on my first diagnostic, I know how daunting improvement can seem especially when initial improvement is followed by a scoring plateau. Likewise, I have seen and heard firsthand how certain instructors fail to connect with their students when mastery of the LSAT came so naturally to the instructor. Accordingly, I tailor my approach to each student's individual learning style yet still emphasize the same core concepts––understanding argument structure, causal reasoning, conditional reasoning, and the ability to make inferences––which must be mastered in order to achieve improvement.
