Originally an academic, he holds advanced degrees from Yale, the University of Glasgow, and the University of Georgia, and since leaving academia he has taught, tutored, and written content for Magoosh, Kaplan, Harvard Prep, SuccessPrep, Parliament Tutors, Varsity Tutors, and many other companies, and has since founded his own company, Ivory Tower Tutoring. He was also, for many years, the chief writer for Barron''s GMAT product line.

Clients preparing for the GRE are generally motivated and ready to work hard to attain their desired score. Where I come in as a coach is not only with subject matter knowledge, but the ability to help you focus your preparation and make the best use of your time. I'll also teach you strategies specific to the test—the way questions are worded and the way passages are structured can often give you important clues once you know what to look for. Furthermore, I have many years of experience as a classroom teacher and tutor, especially in math. I am able to draw on those other experiences to help GRE students by suggesting other resources to shore up particular areas that need work. Many of my GRE students have strengthened their mathematical problem-solving ability by going outside the bounds of GRE prep books; they were then able to apply these skills to the actual GRE.

The only way to do well on the GMAT and the GRE is to understand the material and to know how to answer the questions. Cheats and guessing strategies don’t work, and you can’t “beat” or “outsmart” the tests. I am a Certified Teacher who has taught the material that appears on these tests in school. MY APPROACH IS TO TEACH YOU THE CONCEPTS AND SKILLS YOU NEED TO ANSWER THE TEST QUESTIONS CORRECTLY. I scored in the 99th percentile on the GMAT and the SAT, and I have a thorough understanding of the tests. I am a writer, with excellent language skills. As a Certified Teacher, I have 20-plus years’ experience as a teacher, tutor, test prep coach, and business trainer. I am a former teacher of high school math – exactly the math that appears on the tests – and of English grammar and writing. I am a trained and certified teacher. Hello! Having applied and been accepted into multiple graduated programs (MBA from Kellogg School of Management and MSc from the London School of Economics), I bring a wealth of knowledge and strategic insight to GRE preparation. I've taken the test multiple times and have firsthand experience seeing how one's score can increase with thoughtful, intentional, and dedicated preparation. Across 4 times I've taken the GRE, I've averaged a score of 330+ and have scored a 169 on verbal section (99th percentile) and 170 on the quant section (perfect score). I've also consistently scored 5s on the writing section if that is an area of focus. Between the actual exams, tryout exams for jobs, and personal diagnostic exams, I have never scored below 99th-percentile on the LSAT, GMAT, nor GRE. I started in the industry in 2002 with Kaplan, and founded my own company in 2005. I was one of Veritas's (acquired by Varsity Tutors as their elite program) first instructors and a go-to instructor for most of their existence, teaching literally coast-to-coast until moving off of their grid in 2017. Career highlights include successfully writing and then teaching my own LSAT course, teaching over a dozen GMAT classes at Booth School of Business at University of Chicago, and tutoring around Silicon Valley at locations such as the Google campus, Stanford, and the San Francisco Financial District. In short, I've taught and tutored thousands of students within the elite model used by Veritas, Manhattan, and others, in which the highest-scoring instructors teach in small classrooms and focus on higher-end analytic aspects of the exam. I wrote my own LSAT course, and I contributed to the highly-regarded Veritas course and books. My students have gone on to attend the best law and business schools in the world.
