On paper, I am a Princeton college graduate, and a Stanford MBA graduate - as well as the less conventional qualification of being an admitted Ph.D. student in Anthropology at UC Irvine. More importantly to me, I grew up in a working class community, and applied to these programs with few paths tread ahead of me to set an example. For that reason, I'm passionate about working with students who are developing their voice and narrative in the application process - because with such competitive programs out there, anyone can often feel like an underdog. To date, most of my coaching has been with low-income students who have lacked extensive resources, so I am most supportive in framing narratives in ways that hint at the unique, if sometimes scrappy, qualifications of a student. I like to focus on the whole picture that an applicant brings to the table, from individual traits, to passions, to family background - alongside all the standard materials an application holds. I overcame a 5% acceptance rate to the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business as a community college transfer. Since my own admittance, I have been deeply involved in helping several transfer students make their own jump to a 4 year university. I have expertise in helping students craft a compelling personal narrative and package together an application that will catch the eye of an admissions team. I also came from a single mother background, and finding scholarships to supplement my financial aid was crucial for me to attend univeristy. I can share my tips and tricks for securing over $20k in independent scholarships, from the sourcing process to the actual application (which often includes an essay).

I am a student who received all five offers for UCAS applications when applying in 2019. Hence, I can help empower you to achieve your dreams and create a compelling statement, within the limitations of the questions. I will further help you identify universities which align with your current academic profile and how to navigate the interview process (for select courses). This course is perfect for international applicants new to the UK system and understanding the specific requirements that UK universities ACTUALLY look for.

I've been building and investing in companies for the past decade. After graduating from Yale, I had a couple stints in consulting and global health before finding my way to startups. I started two companies, one a surplus food marketplace and the other in office management software. Neither was extraordinarily successful, but gave me a taste for helping companies go 0-1 and allowed me to meet some exceptional founders and builders. I started angel investing, realized I enjoyed investing/advising, and went to Wharton/Lauder with the intent of exploring venture capital (and to get better at Chinese). While in business school, I met Contrary and started working full time while still in my 2nd year. After graduating, I stayed on, became a partner 1.5 years in, and led deals in a number of great companies (Orchard Robotics, Nomic, Endeavor AI, etc.). I transitioned to a board partner/advisor role this past summer and have spent most of my time since helping build companies and continuing to angel invest. My angel portfolio includes companies like Ramp, Warp, Clara, Slingshot AI, and many others.
