Priya joined Smash Capital in April 2022 as a Venture Investor in the Los Angeles investment office. Most recently, Priya worked at March Capital, a growth-stage venture capital fund in Santa Monica focused on B2B SaaS investments. Prior to joining March Capital, Priya received her MBA from Columbia Business School. During her time at Columbia, Priya worked at a seed stage venture capital fund focused on investing in female founded startups, an early-stage venture capital fund that invests in entrepreneurial consumer brands, and an early-stage venture capital fund focused on investing in enterprise businesses. Before business school, Priya worked at Deloitte Consulting where she specialized in transforming business processes at Fortune 500 organizations. At Deloitte, Priya developed global technology solutions for Financial Services clients but served clients in a variety of industries including TMT (Technology, Media, and Telecommunications), Consumer and Packaged Goods, and Professional Services. Outside of client service, Priya worked on a variety of entrepreneurial initiatives including consulting for grassroots organizations in Central America. Priya received her B.B.A from the University of Texas at Austin.

I'm a current VC investor with prior experience at another venture fund as well as Goldman Sachs. I am passionate about helping others break into VC without IB experience. I also love helping give pre-seed and seed stage founders feedback on their businesses or pitch decks. I also lead the Chicago Chapter of the Emerging Venture Capitalists Association, the largest venture capital organization in the country supporting pre-partner investors. Prior to spending nearly 2.5 years in venture capital, I worked in the asset management division at Goldman Sachs. My experience at Goldman Sachs, combining deep public market expertise with strong sales skills, has provided me with a distinct advantage in identifying and supporting high-potential investment opportunities within the venture market. A bit more background on myself: I graduated early from Northwestern University with a degree in Economics, along with a certificate in Integrated Marketing Communications and a Religious Studies minor. Outside of work, I sit on several Chicago-based junior boards.

Direct experience overseeing investments in early-stage companies in the West Coast & Latin America and managing a portfolio of c. 25 companies. Also went through the founder journey myself, from incubation in my Stanford dorm to a 10M USD revenue company backed by Founders Fund and Kaszek with operations in five countries. Certified coach under the Co-Active Training Institute, Upbuild, and the Aletheia Advanced Coaching Training program. I broke into venture capital from management consulting, navigating a path that required strategic networking, deep market curiosity, and a sharp understanding of what VC firms are really looking for. I’ve worked across the venture spectrum—from early-stage U.S. and Korean startups to growth-stage tech companies—and received offers from both early and growth VC firms. As part of a founding team at a new Korea-based fund, I helped raise a $100M inaugural fund and worked closely with partners on sourcing, diligence, and portfolio support, gaining firsthand exposure to what makes a compelling investment—and a strong candidate. On top of that, I’ve also sat on the other side of the table. I led the hiring process for analysts and interns, giving me insight into what funds actually prioritize in candidates—from resumes and cold emails to interviews and investment memos. I coach aspiring VCs on how to position themselves, craft a differentiated investment thesis, and convert networking into interviews. Whether you’re breaking in from consulting, banking, or an operating background, I can help you understand how the U.S. and Asian markets differ, what skills funds value at each stage, and how to tell a story that resonates. Landed jobs and internships at top funds like Norwest, Floodgate, and Summit Partners. Have coached fellow students on breaking into the industry. Worked in the space for 2 years, ultimately pursued a full-time job operating due to fund economics at the junior levels. Can speak to breaking in but also thinking about building a long-term career in the space. I now work with emerging fund managers on fund launch strategy, and angel invest in ~5-10 companies a year.

I didn’t start in venture capital. I intentionally moved into startup CFO and operator roles to understand how companies are built and financed from the inside. That path eventually led me to launch and manage my own fund, where I’ve raised capital and invested across early and growth stages. Today, I manage an investment fund investing across public and private markets, and have sat on both sides of the table i.e., raising money as an operator and deploying it as an investor. I’ve co-invested alongside firms like a16z and Sequoia and reviewed thousands of opportunities across sectors. If you’re trying to break into VC or raise capital, I focus on positioning. Breaking in isn’t about sending more cold emails. Fundraising isn’t about having a deck. It’s about understanding how investors think and communicating your edge clearly. I don’t coach full-time. I do this alongside managing capital because I enjoy working with a small number of serious people and sharing what I’ve learned from actually being in the seat.
