I worked with Conor Ahern and I highly recommend him to anyone who wants to say they did everything they could to submit their best possible law school application. I initially purchased an Edit Once for my Personal Statement because I sensed that the friends I first asked to read it were too concerned about my feelings to be completely honest about what needed to change. When I received thoughtful feedback from Conor about each sentence of my Personal Statement highlighting concerns that I never had after 120 days of writing it, I immediately knew I needed to upgrade to the Admissions Consulting package so that Conor could read everything I had written for my applications. Conor gave me precisely what I was looking for from an admissions consultant, and I can’t believe I found such a good fit for myself. Conor was always kind, thorough, and responsive to my many frivolous concerns. Still, I appreciated most that his kindness never prevented him from being unsparingly honest about things that needed to change. He wasn’t afraid to say what everyone else was thinking when they read my Personal Statement, but his insightfulness allowed him also to suggest edits that no one else could. In addition to several more rounds of back-and-forth Personal Statement edits, Conor and I worked on a diversity statement, a GPA addendum, a resume, ten supplemental essays, a character and fitness statement, and plenty of short answer questions all within a month. Many students write one template for their Why X Schools essays and then adapt it for a given school; I felt so grateful when Conor was supportive of my decision to write a unique statement for each of the ten applications we prepared. There were a couple of days where I’d send Conor 8 unique first drafts, and I’d receive his individualized feedback and edits of all of them before I could write another essay for him to review. I was reluctant to utilize an admissions consulting team because I wanted all of my application materials to have my personal voice instead of someone else’s, which is why I was always ecstatic when I’d receive an edit back from Conor and still be able to recognize my perspective and sensibilities as a writer. Instead of taking away my voice, Conor helped me articulate myself in a way that my writing style was preventing. Not only did working with Conor give me an application package I could be proud of, but I also gained a new sense of direction for my writing that I believe will be instrumental in law school and beyond. To anyone wondering if Admissions Consulting is worth the cost, I can assure you that you will not receive such rigorous and informed feedback from your school’s writing center.
