Finding a job as a summer associate or full-time attorney is a unique process with its own set of rules, and the rules have changed dramatically in recent years. To be successful in finding a job as an attorney, you need to build both your skillset and your network. I began my career in patent litigation at Kirkland & Ellis in New York City, one of the top firms in the country. After I left Kirkland, I moved to various states with my family and created employment opportunities where few opportunities were available. I want to share with you the skills I developed so you will be able to nail your legal acumen and also navigate social and professional situations to develop the career you are looking for. Securing summer and post-graduate employment is now the responsibility of every individual student or attorney, but you don't have to go through the process alone. Whether you help finding opportunities, tips for building connections, a résumé refresh, or edits for a cover letter, I can guide you through the process and share insights that have been successful in navigating my own career as an attorney. I can't wait to help you succeed!

About Megan
I've been in your shoes, and I've been on the other side. As a college senior, I took the daunting step of applying to law school. I was a first-generation law student figuring out the process on my own, and I learned a lot along the way. Without knowing much about the importance of LSAT scores or how to study effectively, I earned a 97th percentile score. With only a hazy knowledge of what law schools were looking for, I drafted my personal statement and résumé and sent off my applications. Fortunately, I had the privilege of attending a T-14 school in the legal capital of our nation. While a student at Georgetown, I honed my writing skills as a Senior Writing Fellow and as an editor for The Georgetown Law Journal and the Annual Review of Criminal Procedure. As a member of the Student Faculty Admissions Committee, I invested in creating a strong law school community, reviewing applications and offering feedback on which applicants could create a collaborative and engaging class. I ate up the opportunities around me - taking classes from federal judges, patent law experts, and members of current and past administrations; attending Supreme Court arguments and touring the Capitol; interning at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; and exploring the museums and fine arts in the D.C. area. My beloved law school experience instilled in me two dreams: continuing to help students with their writing on a larger scale and helping students on their path to and through law school. But at the time I wasn't quite sure how to achieve those dreams. Directly after law school, I joined top-tier Kirkland & Ellis, LLP in their New York City office as a patent litigator and stayed close with my alma mater by volunteering as an alumni interviewer. I learned so much as a young associate at one of the best firms in the country. As my life circumstances changed and I needed more time and flexibility to devote to my growing family, I stepped back from legal practice and began tutoring students for the LSAT and helping law school applicants develop and perfect their personal statements. As my business grew and my family relocated to Indiana, I was able to realize my dreams in greater force when I was hired as an LSAT Prep Instructor for Indiana University in Bloomington. Being in front of a classroom, helping students navigate new material, is one of my favorite places to be. Even better, the LSAT Prep Course at IU was designed to be accessible to students at a range of income levels. I wrote a curriculum incorporating the applications of LSAT skills to law school and legal practice and made the LSAT come to life for my students at all socioeconomic levels. When my family moved again, this time to Portland, Oregon, I pitched the idea of an affordable in-house LSAT prep course to Portland State University and taught there for several years. I temporarily left Portland State to work remotely with the Georgetown Law Admissions Office for the 2021-2022 application cycle. As an Admissions and Recruitment Counselor, I worked with the admissions deans and the director of admissions to review thousands of applications and make recommendations regarding admission for the JD, LLM, and SJD programs. I also interviewed applicants, made scholarship recommendations, and assisted in waitlist decisions. At the end of the contract, I accepted an offer to return to legal practice, this time at a mid-sized law firm where I learned new areas of the law, was exposed to mid-sized firm operations, mentored summer clerks, and participated in the decision-making process for hiring first-year associates. After another three years in legal practice, I felt the call back to working with students and started coaching on Leland. This spring, I will also be returning to teaching at Portland State. I am passionate about helping applicants achieve their goals. If we work together, you will find that I am personally invested in your success - not just up to the point of submitting your applications, but throughout your law school experience and legal career. I still keep in touch with several of my clients, even from my early days of working with students. If you want to work with someone who not only knows how admissions committees think and what stands out (positively and negatively) in application review, but also someone who has been the student and the job applicant and the fresh face on the legal team, I can walk you through all of that. I've been there, and my goal is to help you succeed in whatever legal path you are pursuing.
Why do I coach?
I coach because law school admissions and the LSAT shouldn't be a black box. Not everyone had a parent who is a lawyer or an older sister who has taken the LSAT, and I believe everyone deserves a peek behind the curtain. My coaching philosophy is one of practicality and reality, not gimmicks or hacks. You'll never hear me say there is "one thing" that makes all the difference or that some secret trick will help you achieve your goals. Rather, because I've been in the places you want to be - as a student in a T14 classroom, as an editor of a premier law journal, as a young associate in a premier law firm, and as a more seasoned attorney in a mid-sized firm - I will tell it to you straight. I will help you craft a personal statement that captivates your audience, assemble a résumé that masterfully highlights your skills and has perfect spelling and grammar, and develop truly quality relationships with professors and professionals who will write you exemplary letters of recommendation. If you are earlier on in the process, I'll use my significant experience teaching the LSAT to help you understand the foundational skills being tested and how they are relevant to your law school experience. Working with me is not just about jumping through the hoops of the LSAT and law school applications. Rather, our work together will help you grow as an individual as you become more prepared to succeed in law school and your future legal career. Feel free to book a free 15-minute intro call to learn more about specific ways I can help you on your journey!
