Mat has helped clients get into these companies:

No matter where you currently work or which university you attend, I’m passionate about helping aspiring professionals break into Corporate Development. Specifically, I can support you by: 1. Providing a clear overview of the Corporate Development recruiting landscape 2. Helping you build the key skills required for on-the-job success 3. Creating a tailored recruiting strategy to land a role at your target program I took a highly non-traditional path into the field and received multiple Corporate Development offers despite challenges: a modest GPA, lower standardized test scores, graduating from a non-target state university, and no experience at a bulge-bracket or elite boutique investment bank. My background includes: - Successful recruiting for Summer Analyst, Full-Time Analyst, and lateral Investment Banking roles - Ten internships across three states, secured through persistent networking, leading to a full-time Investment Banking role in a technology-focused group in San Francisco - Two full-time Corporate Development offers from private equity-backed SaaS companies Today, I help lead M&A for a high-growth, highly profitable SaaS company. In this role, I’ve: - Built the M&A function from the ground up, leading deal sourcing, execution, and post-merger integration - Closed three acquisitions that helped triple the company’s growth in just two years - Engaged with 200+ founders to evaluate strategic fit and participated in dozens of sell-side processes - Reported directly to the C-suite, presented weekly to the Board, and collaborated closely with Product, Engineering, Go-to-Market, and other teams on sourcing and due diligence I’ve also built relationships with Corporate Development leaders at top public companies (including Apple, Zoom, PayPal, Shopify, American Tower, and Royal Caribbean) and have deep insight into the varying recruiting processes and team structures across different platforms. If you’re aiming for Corporate Development — or even exploring whether it’s the right next step after investment banking — I’d love to connect and discuss how I can help you achieve your goals. Please reach out; I’m here to be a resource on your journey.

About Mat

I grew up in Salt Lake City, UT and graduated with a BS in Finance from the University of Utah. I completed 10 internships during my undergraduate years, all exploring different careers in corporate finance. Post graduation from undergrad, I worked full-time for Mizuho Securities' Technology Investment Banking group in San Francisco, CA. At that point, I was faced with a decision: recruit for full-time lateral investment banking positions at bulge bracket or elite boutique investment banks, in order to get the VC / PE interest I thought I wanted, or network and explore what Corporate Development avenues were available to me. I ended up landing two Corporate Development Associate offers from PE-backed software companies. I worked for a SaaS company that acquired 4 companies, one of which I sourced myself. We tripled growth during my time at the company and recapitalized at a 3x for our investors. I had an interesting opportunity to work at a PE-backed Dental Services Organization (DSO) for a year and, while I enjoyed my time, felt more drawn to a career with a technology emphasis. Currently, I help lead Corporate Development for a PE-backed GovTech SaaS roll-up. I continue to refine my skills, improve my investment process, and learn each day. I'd love to work with you on finding a career that you thoroughly enjoy.

Why do I coach?

Coming from a non-target state school with a modest GPA and lower standardized test scores—and without a Summer Analyst return offer due to COVID—breaking into investment banking full-time, and later transitioning to Corporate Development, required relentless effort and a strategic approach: strategic cold emailing, networking calls, and mock interviews. Private equity isn’t for everyone straight out of IB, and you can expect a variety of different bumps along the way. I'm here to help! I’ve found a career in Corporate Development that I truly love—one that offers daily challenges, career progression, continued learning and development, and an overall enjoyable lifestyle. I have spoken to many other Corporate Development professionals who echo this same notion. I strongly encourage anyone exploring corporate finance careers to learn more about Corporate Development. It provides a unique, rewarding trajectory that’s often overlooked. I’d be happy to help coach you through the recruiting process and prepare you to land your ideal next role—whether that’s in Corporate Development, investment banking, or something similar. Please reach out if you're interested in exploring.
