About Mat

I grew up in Salt Lake City, UT and graduated with a BS in Finance from the University of Utah. I completed 10 internships during my undergraduate years, all exploring different careers in corporate finance. Post graduation from undergrad, I worked full-time for Mizuho Securities' Technology Investment Banking group in San Francisco, CA. At that point, I was faced with a decision: recruit for full-time lateral investment banking positions at bulge bracket or elite boutique investment banks, in order to get the VC / PE interest I thought I wanted, or network and explore what Corporate Development avenues were available to me. I ended up landing two Corporate Development Associate offers from PE-backed software companies. I worked for a SaaS company that acquired 4 companies, one of which I sourced myself. We tripled growth during my time at the company and recapitalized at a 3x for our investors. I had an interesting opportunity to work at a PE-backed Dental Services Organization (DSO) for a year and, while I enjoyed my time, felt more drawn to a career with a technology emphasis. Currently, I help lead Corporate Development for a PE-backed GovTech SaaS roll-up. I continue to refine my skills, improve my investment process, and learn each day.
