About Juan Carlos
Hi, I’m Juan. I’m from Mar del Plata, Argentina a coastal city with a strong cultural identity and home to one of the world’s A-category film festivals. Growing up here shaped my perspective: I value culture, discipline, and community. Math was always something that came naturally to me, but it wasn’t just talent, it was something I chose to develop. A high school teacher had a big influence on me and showed me how powerful structured thinking can be. At first, I planned to become an accountant, but I realized I was much more drawn to logic and problem-solving than regulations and rules. That decision led me to specialize in mathematics and eventually become a university professor. Outside of academics, I’m deeply driven by entrepreneurship and by teamwork. Football has taught me discipline and how to play a role within a bigger goal. I also love music (I play guitar and used to be in a band) and film. I believe understanding different perspectives makes you a better thinker. That combination of structure, discipline, and creativity defines who I am.
Why do I coach?
I coach because I genuinely enjoy helping students change the way they think and reach they dreams. One of the biggest misconceptions about the GMAT is that it’s purely about math. In reality, I see it as 20% math foundation and 80% structured problem-solving and decision-making. Many students struggle not because they lack ability, but because they lack clarity and strategy. I especially enjoy working with students who feel stuck with math — those who believe it’s “not for them.” My approach is simple: simplify, structure, succeed. We break complex problems into small parts, build confidence step by step, and develop the discipline to manage time and make smart decisions under pressure. For me, coaching is a partnership. When my students reach their target score, it’s not just their win it’s ours.

Quantitative Reasoning Coach
Merchant GMAT & Admissions
May 2022 - December 2025
During my time at Merchant, I held a cross-functional role that extended well beyond teaching. I worked at the intersection of instruction, content development, operations, and data analytics, with a strong focus on measurable student outcomes and continuous improvement. As a Quantitative Reasoning and Data Insights coach for GMAT, GRE, and Executive Assessment, I delivered highly personalized instruction, designing problem-solving frameworks, time-management strategies, and decision-making heuristics tailored to each student’s performance profile and target score. I was also responsible for the design and development of proprietary academic content, including practice sets, domain-specific exercises, theoretical guides, mock exams, and exam simulations. A significant part of my work involved adapting and restructuring content for new exam formats—particularly GMAT Focus and Data Insights—ensuring alignment with evolving test specifications and difficulty distributions. A core component of my role was data analysis and performance diagnostics. I systematically analyzed official score reports and mock exam data to track accuracy rates, time per question, performance by topic and difficulty level, and recurring error patterns. These insights were used to build individualized study plans, optimize lesson sequencing, and improve score-gain efficiency per hour of instruction. In parallel, I contributed to academic operations and process optimization, supporting program tracking, student follow-up, and internal reporting workflows. My work helped introduce a more structured, analytics-driven approach to decision-making, improving both instructional consistency and scalability.
