A lot of coaching is either too "soft" (reflection without results) or too tactical (quick fixes that don’t stick). I offer a middle path: Science-Based Coaching. Drawing on a decade of experience at Google, X (the moonshot factory), and Pure Storage, combined with a Master’s in Learning and Organizational Change from Northwestern, I help high-achievers treat their careers as a system to be architected, not a series of fires to be put out. Why Work With Me? I have designed the very systems that govern how people learn, grow, and succeed at some of the world’s most elite companies. When you work with me, you get access to that "source code": -> The Google Insider: I worked on the global reboot of Google’s performance management, helping design the company’s promotion philosophy, policies, and process. -> The Moonshot Mindset: At X, I trained leaders on the innovation mindsets required to support breakthroughs like self-driving cars. -> The Executive Architect: In my current role at Pure Storage, I lead executive succession planning, talent reviews, and performance development for the entire company. My Methodology: Evidence-Based Precision I provide the academic rigor of a scientist and the uninterrupted attention of a dedicated thinking partner. We move beyond surface-level advice using a four-stage Action-Learning Cycle: -> The Reality Check: We gather "human data" to see exactly where you stand. -> The Mindset Shift: We move beyond surface-level changes to identify and unlearn the "rules" slowing your progress. -> The Skill Build: Using the science of adult learning, we ensure new habits anchor into your daily routine so they actually stick. -> The Real-World Test: We treat your current environment as a laboratory, designing small, low-risk experiments to prove what works before scaling. Who I Help My coaching focuses on Vertical Development—building your cognitive capacity to handle the complexity of the next decade, rather than just solving for your next immediate role. My clients typically seek to: -> Navigate high-stakes promotions or career pivots. -> Master foundational leadership and managerial skills. -> Craft a powerful professional narrative aligned with their values. -> Overcome limiting beliefs and embrace failure as a tool for growth. When I’m not coaching, I’m likely outside in the mountains of Provo, Utah, or building complex LEGO sets with my two young sons. I believe your career is one of the best places to learn and grow, and I’d be honored to assist you on your journey.

About Grant
Hi! I'm Grant Russell, a senior HR leader and certified coach with a passion for helping people grow personally and professionally. I'm also a husband and proud dad to two young boys, which are my greatest source of joy and growth. For fun, I enjoy doing pretty much anything outside, especially if there are big trees, mountains, or bodies of water nearby! I'm also a big fan of LEGO and Survivor. I live in beautiful Provo, Utah. I hold a master's degree in Learning and Organizational Change from Northwestern University and a bachelor's degree in Business Management from Brigham Young University. I spent 10 years at Google, helping transform and lead many of the company's talent and leadership development programs. I accelerated learning and performance for thousands of employees at scale and instituted cultural practices to spur novel innovations like self-driving cars. I also coached over 100 colleagues in 1:1 career coaching sessions, helping them navigate transitions, overcome limiting beliefs, define values, clarify vision, and more. It was an exhilarating and rewarding ride. After a decade focused exclusively on growing individuals internally at Google, I’ve shifted my focus to help individuals thrive in their career regardless of where they work. The essence of my coaching is to empower growth, self-awareness, and self-belief in people like you! My background in psychology, adult development, business, and technology comes together in a unique way to help you make progress. Through proven, structured prompts, we’ll partner to reflect on your work and life experiences to identify what's worked (and why) and find ways to build on and harness your unique strengths. When necessary, we'll identify and reframe your limiting beliefs and develop new ways of thinking you can try in the future. You'll craft a powerful personal narrative so you can build a career that truly resonates with your values and goals. I also use the latest AI tools to supplement my human coaching. I deeply believe that with the right mindset and resources, you can overcome anything! My life experiences have taught me how to overcome significant challenges. In fact, my hardest obstacles have become my greatest learning opportunities. For example, shortly after we started dating, my (now) wife was diagnosed with a chronic medical condition. As a result, I now carry the bulk of our daily household chores and parenting responsibilities, on top of my full-time day job and coaching passion project. This has forged an incredible bond with my kids and a deep appreciation for life, health, and well-being. I have chosen optimism and resilience rather than defeat. I bring this same grit and positive thinking to my coaching practice. I’m passionate about creating a space where you can bring your whole self. My commitment to you is that I will do everything I can to help you make progress and find what you're looking for. My services: -> Career Coaching: Tailored sessions to help you land a new role or promotion, switch industries, or find a new direction. -> Leadership Coaching: Tailored sessions to help you build leadership skills (e.g. executive presence, communication), identify your blind spots, or assimilate to a new senior role.
Why do I coach?
I believe coaching is among one of the most powerful accelerators for performance and growth. As I think back on my own journey, I can name many people whose "coaching" made me who I am, even if they didn't know it or call it that. Being coached has helped me overcome self doubt, navigate tricky crossroads, identify my blindspots, find clarity, develop critical skills, set meaningful goals and stay on track to achieve them. It has helped me become a better person and find more purpose in my life. It was these first hand experiences which encouraged me to receive formal coaching training, and that has only made me more convinced of its impact. Coaching others has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. I count it a great pleasure to be invited into your growth journey and consider it my responsibility to ensure you have the best possible experience.
