Emilio’s AI for Businesses Qualifications

Experience level: Associate

I'm uniquely positioned to help businesses navigate AI adoption because I've spent the past two years researching exactly how organizations fail—and succeed—at integrating these tools. In my research on technology adoption patterns, I've analyzed case studies of companies implementing AI systems, interviewed teams about their actual workflows with language models, and documented the gap between how leaders think AI will be used versus how employees actually use it day-to-day. One pattern I've observed repeatedly: organizations that rush to deploy AI without understanding their team's existing decision-making processes end up with expensive tools that sit unused. The successful implementations I've studied all share something in common—they started by mapping human workflows first, then identified specific friction points where AI could genuinely help. As a Claude Campus Ambassador at Anthropic, I work directly with users across different industries to understand their adoption challenges. I've seen a finance team struggle to trust AI-generated analysis until they built verification protocols. I've watched a marketing agency transform their content workflow by strategically integrating AI at three specific touchpoints—not everywhere. These real-world observations inform how I coach: I help you identify where AI creates genuine value versus where it's just noise. My background as Research Manager at the Columbia AI Alignment Club also means I bring a critical perspective on AI safety and responsible deployment—essential for businesses that want to move fast without creating risk. And my experience as a UX Researcher taught me how to translate what I observe in user behavior into concrete strategic recommendations that non-technical stakeholders can actually act on. What makes my coaching different: I don't sell AI hype. I help you figure out where in your operations AI makes sense, how to get your team actually using it, and what pitfalls to avoid based on patterns I've seen across dozens of real implementations. Let's discuss what AI adoption could actually look like for your business—grounded in evidence, not buzzwords.

About Emilio

Hi there — I'm an independent AI safety researcher examining how emerging technologies reshape human decision-making, organizational practices, and society at large. My work focuses on human–AI interaction, language model behavior, and technology adoption patterns. I hold an MA in Media Studies/Sociology from Columbia University, where I also developed expertise in qualitative research methods and sociotechnical systems. My academic journey began at BYU–Hawaii, where early mentorship transformed my trajectory entirely. Those experiences taught me something crucial: with strategic effort, informed guidance, and willingness to take calculated risks, you can achieve outcomes that initially seem out of reach. When I pivoted into graduate study, I spent months crafting a cohesive narrative and executing a focused application strategy—ultimately earning acceptances from Columbia and NYU. I coach because I've watched talented people underestimate how close they are to breakthrough moments. I work with clients on graduate school applications, career pivots, long-term planning, networking strategy, and interview preparation. I also help people understand how AI is reshaping expertise and work—giving you a grounded perspective on navigating these shifts strategically. My approach combines research-driven insight with practical execution and narrative craft. Above all, I help clients recognize their own potential and take deliberate steps toward the futures they want.

Why do I coach?

I coach because transformative guidance changed my life—and I believe everyone deserves access to that kind of support. Early in my undergrad, a mentor pushed me to take bigger risks and aim higher than I thought possible. That single relationship reshaped my entire approach to growth and opportunity. It gave me permission to pursue ambitious goals and the resilience to navigate inevitable setbacks. Since then, I've deliberately cultivated a network of mentors who continue challenging me to expand what I think is achievable. Now I want to provide that same catalyst for others. The right guidance doesn't just help you refine a résumé or ace an interview—it fundamentally shifts how you see your own possibilities. Whether you're navigating self-doubt, planning a major pivot, or preparing for a competitive process, strategic support makes the difference between incremental progress and genuine transformation.

Columbia AI Alignment Club

January 2025 - Present

I manage AI safety research within the Columbia AI Alignment Club, supporting multiple projects through design, execution, and impact planning while offering detailed feedback on papers and experimental methods. My work includes adapting classic social science experiments (e.g., truth-bias, escalation of commitment) to study human-like behaviors in language models. I also lead a seven-week seminar on AI governance and social impact, mentoring 25 undergraduate fellows as they develop research proposals.

June 2025 - August 2025

I worked as a Summer Research Intern in the Management Division at Columbia Business School (acceptance rate <5%), collaborating with Professor Alan Zhang on a project examining how emerging player-performance technologies are adopted in amateur competitive youth sports. I conducted semi-structured interviews and ethnographic field observations with athletes and coaches, and produced a comprehensive literature review on technology adoption, data-driven performance evaluation, and innovation diffusion in sports.

Brigham Young University–Hawaii

April 2022 - June 2024

As a UX Research Associate and Data Scientist at Brigham Young University–Hawaii, I led ethnographic fieldwork and user interviews to uncover systemic pain points across student and administrative experiences. I synthesized qualitative and quantitative data collected through Qualtrics into user journey maps and actionable insights that informed institutional decision-making. I presented these findings as policy recommendations to the University President’s Council, contributing to campus-wide strategic initiatives.

Barnes & Noble

September 2020 - April 2022

As the self-published author of Outstanding Stories from Kiribati, I independently designed and executed an oral history project documenting religious developments in Kiribati. I developed interview protocols, coordinated outreach to former volunteers, and conducted and transcribed 30 in-depth interviews. I synthesized these narratives into thematic chapters while preserving individual voices, and managed the full publication process—from manuscript development to production through Barnes & Noble Press—ultimately producing a 332-page book.
