About Emiley
I always thought I would be a teacher. I loved education as a child, and as I grew into adolescence, I continued to love learning. Unfortunate high school experiences and the country's investment in STEM careers skewed my career aspirations from education to forensic science. College was a must, and so, I pursued higher education at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. My first semester I started to suspect that I was not meant for the one STEM career I was remotely interested in. In using the resources at IUPUI, I was able to discover that my suspicions were correct: I could not be a forensic scientist. Through my on-campus job at the Office of Student Employment and the guidance of incredible professionals, I saw who I wanted to be. I have always enjoyed helping people with their job search. Everything from navigating job boards like Handshake to writing a killer resume or preparing a succinct interview answer. I have pursued countless experiences and completed two degrees in my pursuit to be an educator, where my destiny lies. I am passionate about helping others succeed through guided coaching, including realistic goal setting, positive perspectives, and personalized strategies. On a more personal note, I am a first-generation college graduate, for both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. I am from a low-income background. I understand what it's like to struggle with navigating a new field or feeling isolated in your experience. This is why I center a growth mindset in my life and work! On a cuter note, I am a cat mom to three fur babies: Anna (12), Cara (2), and Lois (2). I am an avid music listener and a faithful re-watcher of early 2000s CW shows.
Why do I coach?
Education has always been a passion of mine. I coach because I care about the success of others, and I truly believe any situation can be tackled with a new perspective, a great plan, and an openness to growth. Since my own need for career exploration and development in 2019, I have found the work to be captivating. Working with individuals on their careers fuels my soul, as I am passionate about adult learning and assisting others in navigating the (sometimes) confusing expectations of the job market. I define myself as a humanistic coach who balances technical teaching with empathetic and transparent guidance. I'll be real with you, but I see challenges as opportunities for growth, and together, we will create goals and a plan that align with your resources and strengths.
