Yankang’s Management Consulting Qualifications

Experience level: Associate Partner

I am a former top-performing Principal at BCG who led recruiting for college hires and our summer intern programs in conjunction to project work, giving me a rare dual perspective on how candidates are evaluated and what it truly takes to earn an offer. I’ve reviewed hundreds of resumes, conducted interviews, and made hiring decisions. My own path into consulting was "non-traditional", I came from an engineering and technology background seeking more business strategy experience. I can help candidates translate technical or unconventional experiences into compelling, consulting-ready narratives. I know how to position a profile that doesn’t look “standard” on paper and turn it into a clear advantage. My coaching style is relaxed but practical: whether we’re refining your resume, sharpening your case approach, or crafting leadership stories, my goal is help you look as qualified as possible for an offer. For those already in consulting - I spent my career working on unique, high-impact tech and financial services projects operating in high-pressure and performance-driven environments. I can help coach candidates not just on what to say, but how to perform under stress, manage stakeholders, and think through the classic stay-vs-leave decision.

About Yankang

Spending almost 8 years in management consulting was never the original plan. I studied Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Harvard and had done all my internships at big tech companies but always craved exposure to higher-level business decision making that was not readily available to engineers or PMs. After watching a couple friends practicing for consulting interviews, I decided that exploring management consulting would be the best learning environment for 2 years before going back into tech. Various opportunities and a dynamics environment led to 8 years... At BCG, I focused on unique projects outside of the bread-and-butter strategy and diligence cases that management consulting is known for. I launched ventures and spin-offs, led BCG's internal AI program, helped build our Fintech practice, and worked on high-touch projects with clients that were often in the "99 percentile of difficulty" as my career coach put it. I have navigated complex internal and external dynamics and optimized my own working team environments - as an IC and manager. My "chosen" extracurricular at BCG always recruiting primarily because of the stellar people on the team. After serving as an interview buddy and case practice partner, I was given the chance to lead the Bay Area's recruiting team for Associate hiring and summer intern programs between 2022-2024. I built relationships with candidates from initial interest to final offer, held decision-round interviews, onboarded hundreds of new BCGers, and know the recruiting criteria through and through.

Why do I coach?

I coach because I love helping people achieve and I believe the top way a coach can help a mentee is to show "what good looks like". Coaching (with the right mentor) was critical to me landing management consulting and tech offers and succeeding at every level of the job. I found those with deep experience in the relevant roles helped me contextualize my interview answers and feelings of uncertainty on the job.
