10+ people coached for Career Coaching
I’ve navigated—and succeeded in—recruiting for nearly every major finance path from a consulting background: investment banking (J.P. Morgan M&A), private equity (Bain Capital), venture capital (early- and growth-stage roles in the U.S. and Korea), and hedge funds. What sets me apart is not just that I’ve explored these paths, but that I’ve actually worked in them, executed real deals, and seen how teams operate from the inside out. I was also part of a founding team that successfully raised a $100M inaugural VC fund—giving me firsthand insight into the economics, strategy, and long-term viability of building an investment platform. Having worked across North America and Asia, I bring a global perspective—why the U.S. market might make sense for some and not others, how to position yourself as an international candidate, and how to realistically assess your competitiveness across firms. I also coach candidates on the decision to pursue an MBA and how it plays into different finance career paths: when it adds leverage, when it doesn’t, and how to maximize its value depending on your goals. If you’re coming from MBB (as I did at BCG) or another non-finance background and you’re curious about breaking into finance—but unsure which direction to take—I offer clear, candid, and deeply informed guidance. My strength lies in helping you evaluate the big picture: not just how to break in, but whether you should, and what trade-offs each path entails—from compensation and lifestyle to long-term optionality. With experience at J.P. Morgan, Bain Capital, Northern Light VC, and BCG, I combine insider insight with practical coaching to help you chart the best course and execute with confidence. Whether you’re targeting IB, PE, VC, growth equity, or hedge funds, I’m here to help you get in—and make the most of it once you’re there.

About Tony
I grew up on five continents—Japan, Korea, Kazakhstan, India, and Nicaragua—so navigating different cultures and perspectives has always been part of my life. After studying political science at Washington University in St. Louis, I served for two years in the Korean Air Force’s Logistics Command, where I honed negotiation skills and learned how high-stakes decisions are made under pressure. My professional journey has taken me from Boston Consulting Group, where I advised Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds on private equity investments, to the heart of Silicon Valley as a venture capital investor backing early-stage US and Korean startups. I helped raise a $100 million inaugural fund for a new VC firm and saw firsthand how strategy work translates into building and scaling businesses. My summer internships at J.P. Morgan’s M&A team in New York and Bain Capital’s Buyout team in Tokyo deepened my appreciation for how consulting frameworks inform deal-making, and I’ll be returning to Bain Capital full time to continue developing as a pan‑East Asian investor. Along the way, I discovered a passion for coaching. I’ve guided more than a hundred candidates through case interviews, resume tailoring, and the often intimidating consulting recruiting process, drawing on my own experience to demystify it. Whether you’re exploring consulting or curious about how those skills apply across the finance landscape, I bring a global mindset and practical insights to help you reach your goals.
Why do I coach?
I coach because I understand firsthand how intimidating career transitions can be—especially when you’re navigating them far from home. As an international student landing in the United States for college, I didn’t know what consulting was, how recruiting worked, or even where to start building a network. It took mentors and lots of trial and error to find my footing. Later, pivoting from management consulting to venture capital, investment banking, and private equity taught me that career paths are rarely linear; each move involved learning a new language of finance and weighing risks I didn’t fully understand at the outset. Choosing to pursue an MBA was another leap that required careful guidance from people who had walked that road before me. Those experiences made me realize how powerful good coaching can be. I coach to pay forward the insight and encouragement I received, and to help others avoid the pitfalls I encountered. Whether you’re an international student exploring US recruiting, a consultant considering a move into finance, or someone wondering if an MBA is right for you, I’m here to offer candid advice and structured support. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing someone unlock opportunities they didn’t think were possible.
