50+ people coached for Investment Banking
I successfully broke into investment banking from a non-finance background while at Wharton, landing first-round interviews across top bulge bracket and elite boutique firms—both in coverage and product groups. I ultimately accepted an offer from J.P. Morgan’s M&A team, my top choice, and received a return offer after a strong summer internship. Having gone through the process myself, I understand how overwhelming MBA recruiting can be—especially for career switchers. I can help you clarify your story, prepare for behavioral and technical interviews, and navigate firm preferences and group selection. Beyond the recruiting process, I also coach on how to succeed during the internship itself and evaluate whether banking is the right path based on your long-term goals. Whether you’re just exploring the idea or are deep in prep, I’m here to help you make confident, well-informed decisions.

About Tony
I grew up on five continents—Japan, Korea, Kazakhstan, India, and Nicaragua—so navigating different cultures and perspectives has always been part of my life. After studying political science at Washington University in St. Louis, I served for two years in the Korean Air Force’s Logistics Command, where I honed negotiation skills and learned how high-stakes decisions are made under pressure. My professional journey has taken me from Boston Consulting Group, where I advised Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds on private equity investments, to the heart of Silicon Valley as a venture capital investor backing early-stage US and Korean startups. I helped raise a $100 million inaugural fund for a new VC firm and saw firsthand how strategy work translates into building and scaling businesses. My summer internships at J.P. Morgan’s M&A team in New York and Bain Capital’s Buyout team in Tokyo deepened my appreciation for how consulting frameworks inform deal-making, and I’ll be returning to Bain Capital full time to continue developing as a pan‑East Asian investor. Along the way, I discovered a passion for coaching. I’ve guided more than a hundred candidates through case interviews, resume tailoring, and the often intimidating consulting recruiting process, drawing on my own experience to demystify it. Whether you’re exploring consulting or curious about how those skills apply across the finance landscape, I bring a global mindset and practical insights to help you reach your goals.
Why do I coach?
I coach because I understand firsthand how intimidating career transitions can be—especially when you’re navigating them far from home. As an international student landing in the United States for college, I didn’t know what consulting was, how recruiting worked, or even where to start building a network. It took mentors and lots of trial and error to find my footing. Later, pivoting from management consulting to venture capital, investment banking, and private equity taught me that career paths are rarely linear; each move involved learning a new language of finance and weighing risks I didn’t fully understand at the outset. Choosing to pursue an MBA was another leap that required careful guidance from people who had walked that road before me. Those experiences made me realize how powerful good coaching can be. I coach to pay forward the insight and encouragement I received, and to help others avoid the pitfalls I encountered. Whether you’re an international student exploring US recruiting, a consultant considering a move into finance, or someone wondering if an MBA is right for you, I’m here to offer candid advice and structured support. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing someone unlock opportunities they didn’t think were possible.
