Work Experience
Senior Software Engineer
Onehouse
July 2022 - Present
I currently work as the Tech Lead for our Data Ingestion and Table Optimization team. We help our customers unlock their data by building a Data Lakehouse from their existing sources of data.
Principal Software Engineer
Palo Alto Networks
March 2021 - July 2022
Worked as a member of the Xpanse Data Platform team focused on migrating our data pipelines that power Xpanse product from a series of batch pipelines to streaming ones.
Principal Software Engineer
Palo Alto Networks
December 2020 - March 2021
Senior Software Engineer
Palo Alto Networks
December 2018 - December 2020
Expanse was acquired by Palo Alto Networks in December 2020 Worked on an internal tool used by our analyst team that attributes internet assets like domains, certificates, and IP ranges to companies to define what their potential attack surface when pair with our internet scanning data. This tool was not actively maintained when I started working on it and we transformed it to have faster turnaround for features while improving reliability. I also lead a project where we paired with our Data Science team and incorporated ML to automate the more basic decisions that analysts were making in the tool.

Software Engineer
Sift
October 2016 - October 2018
I'm part of the Data Infrastructure team, where we are building and maintaining reliable, scalable, and low latency systems to help our customers know who they can trust online. We are also working to increase productivity internally by creating better and faster access to data and new tools. These will allow our fellow engineers to diagnose customer issues, build new models to combat fraud, and develop new products. Past and current projects include: HBase performance tuning, including commits to the open source project to have read and write request rates taken into account in the default region balancer, an internal automated "hot region" splitting tool, and configuration tuning our clusters for our workload. Data migration to a new serialization format within our HBase cluster which cut down on storage costs and simplified our code without any downtime or unnecessary duplication of data. ETL pipeline for making data more easily accessible and queryable by non-engineers through nightly conversion jobs that take HFiles and rewrite data as Parquet. The output of these jobs is queryable through Spark SQL and AWS Athena.

Senior Software Engineer
October 2015 - October 2016
I worked as part of our Growth team on a project that is trying to improve how LinkedIn communicates with its members. We hope to achieve this by being smarter about whether or not we send the user a message and if we do, how and when we do so. In order to do this, we use Samza to process the stream of possible messages and make decisions based on relevance and other product requirements. Hopefully we'll be increasing the quality of our communications while cutting down on the total volume. See the blog post below from my talented colleagues for more details and how the project has evolved since I left!

Software Engineer
July 2014 - October 2015
Helped rewrite the existing registration and onboarding codebase using the Play Framework, Scala, and Dust with the following wins: - Moved to daily releases allowing for faster iteration and A/B testing - Decreased latency - Allowed for customizable onboarding experiences that could be target to particular member segments and that multiple teams could configure and contribute to - Increased total number of signups Implemented various onboarding and growth related widgets in the LinkedIn homepage. Worked on the onboarding flow in the new LinkedIn app released in late 2015.
