Description
This is a strategy and game-plan session customized around your specific situation. We start with you here. We'll build a personalized strategy and road map to help you successfully navigate the fall recruiting season. Taking into consideration where you are (eg., undergrad or MBA, "core school" or other, experienced or new to consulting, and your geographic location) and where you want to go (Bain, McKinsey, BCG or other consulting firm; internal strategy department; location; etc). We'll start with your goal and why you're seeking coaching. Then we'll review your background and resume (if you have one you'd like to share). And, assuming you're seeking a strategy consulting job offer, we'll build a specific, practical, personalized plan to best position you for success. Whether you're an undergrad or MBA at a "core school", or any one of the multitude of other great schools where we find exceptional talent, we'll build a winning game plan. Applying outside of the "core schools" machinery takes some proactivity and some creativity and, frankly, those make for some of the most rewarding collaborations. I spent 11 years at Bain, and I was heavily involved in recruiting from day 1, as a summer associate in Boston, new consultant in Los Angeles, to Wharton School head as a Consultant, to Manager and then to Partner in charge of recruiting for many years - for undergrads, MBAs, and industry hires. I oversaw both our summer and full time recruiting efforts during a period of hyper-growth for the Los Angeles office. I set targets and budgets, decided interview lists and ultimately, offers. I've interviewed hundreds of candidates and overseen hiring decisions for summer interns and full time hires for years. I also ran staffing and west coast client development, and I was a global trainer for new consultants. I developed and taught a university class "Introduction to Management Consulting" at UC Irvine, where I taught and coached numerous students at a "non-core school" learn the fundamentals of the job, ready for recruiting season, and successfully land jobs. And they have thrived in the environment! I also hired other MBB firms while an Executive at Salesforce. This is a world I know well, at all levels. I know what it takes to break in and thrive. Based on your specific situation, we can tailor any level of follow-on support you like. Some things I can help with, in addition to building an overall strategy and game plan to maximize your odds of securing an interview and an offer: - Guidance and reviews of resume and cover letter and networking strategy to gain that interview! - New consultant tool-kit, including structuring the work, core frameworks and analytical approaches, client, communication, and team skills - Mock interviews, case and behavioral; followed by an overall assessment and specific feedback on what's working and what to further hone - Real world perspective on what the job requires and what it takes to thrive; day in the life and career perspectives, so you can make a fully informed decision around whether this is a career you truly want to pursue. Perhaps there's something else even better suited to your talents and aspirations! Exploring this can also sharpen your "why Consulting" story. In sum, I can help you build a strategy to break into consulting and provide support at any step. We start and build with you. Whether it's simply building your networking strategy, or running a practice case or two (maybe one to baseline where you are and a second closer to your real interview), or whether you're looking for more end-to-end support, I see this as a collaboration. And I'll be invested in your success. So, if you're looking for some help this recruiting season, please reach out and let's see how I might help. I'll be happy to tell you what I think you need! ;) I look forward to hearing from and possibly working with you!

Break Into Consulting |ex-Bain Partner/Recruiting Head, 2nd Rnd Interviewer
I'm a former Senior Partner and Head of Recruiting at Bain & Company. I was a second round interviewer across all core schools for years. And I was the Partner who led decisions on all candidate offers for new consultants and ACs. I've interviewed and made offers for hundreds of MBAs and undergrads for full time and summer positions. I also taught an "Introduction to Management Consulting" class at UC Irvine, a "non-core" school before that class, and a "core" school afterwards for the Los Angeles office. The class was basically my custom-made new consultant training - a hand-on, practical introduction to the job, structured to provide as close to a real "first case on the job" applied experience. I led students step-by-step through the process of conducting a strategic full potential diagnostic first-hand, researching companies of their choice and building out a future vision, recommended strategy, set of priority initiatives, change management roadmap. They created Board-ready presentations and delivered them in class, again receiving coaching for consultant-level communication effectiveness. In addition to teaching and immersing them in the new consultant tool-kit, I introduced them to the recruiting process and coached them on proactive, creative ways to get into the interviewing cycle. We practiced mock cases and many students successfully landed jobs at Bain and other top consultancies and strategy depts. Depending on where you are in your pursuit, I'm happy to provide support. If you've got final rounds this coming Monday, I'm happy to run a mock case with you and provide feedback. If you're a non-traditional candidate, or coming from a non-core school, and you're looking forward to submitting applications with the hope of an interview, I'm happy to work with you on a fuller break-in strategy. Some examples of things I can help with - as discrete individual sessions or as part of an ongoing coaching - guidance and feedback to best position resumes and cover letters to secure interviews, networking strategies, overview the core consulting toolkit (frameworks, analytical tools, etc) and communication skills, mock interviews and feedback, of course... And more broadly, and all along the way, I'm happy to experience share and/or provide insight into a "day in the life" and career trajectories. I'm passionate about this because I think it's really valuable for folks to understand the profession they're joining! I invite you to reach out in whatever way would be most helpful. If you're looking for a mock interview, it's very easy to set that up. You can block the time and forward your resume, and we'll treat that hour as a real deal Partner interviewing experience with feedback. Alternatively, if you're looking for a broader game plan, or if you have no idea where to start, I've discounted a session that let's us build a strategy that gets you from where you are into the interviewing process and hopefully sailing to an offer. And I can coach you at every step of the way. Sign up for which feels right to you. And message if you'd like to chat or if you don't see availability on my calendar. I want to be as accessible as possible. Most importantly, I want to work with people who I can truly help succeed. I look forward to hearing from and working with you!
