Description

This is a very open hour for us to discuss a career in management consulting as broadly or as specifically as you'd like. The goal is to provide a direct and clear understanding of what the job entails and the skills required to thrive. Generally, we start by baselining where you are in your exploration, your background, and what other types of opportunities you may be considering. And then open it up to peeling back the curtain. I joined Bain after business school, so I've directly followed the path from summer associate to new consultant, case team leader, manager, partner, practice founder. I've led teams from associate consultant summer interns all the way up to fellow partner. I've recruited at all levels and scoped work, sold work, made final recruiting decisions, led consultant staffing in addition to recruiting, led west coast client development efforts, served a multitude of clients across media, tech, consumer products, private equity. I founded and led a global digital practice. I've hired MBB firms as an Executive since leaving Bain, so I also know the product and cultures of the other firms. I will help provide perspective, so that you can make a decision to pursue this career (or not; maybe there's something even better suited to your aspirations!) fully "eyes open". An informed decision is the goal here. And, if you decide you would like to move forward, we can talk about where you are and where you need to reach your goal, whether that's mastering the interviewing process for an offer and/or starting a career with a solid head start!

Break Into Consulting | Former Bain Partner & Head of Recruiting

I was a Senior Partner at Bain & Company and Head of Recruiting for Bain Los Angeles. I was at Bain for over 11 years and I worked with some of Bain's largest and most successful clients. And, as the Partner overseeing global recruiting, I've interviewed and overseen hiring decisions for hundreds of MBAs and undergrads for full time and summer positions. I also taught an "Introduction to Management Consulting" class at UC; a hand-on, practical introduction to the job, structured to provide as close to a real "first case on the job" experience. I led students step-by-step through the process of conducting a strategic full potential diagnostic first-hand. Mock interview cases are essentially the 30 minute "answer-first" to these 3-4 month strategy cases. I've coached hundreds of undergrads and MBAs, helping them master the case interview and successfully navigate the consulting recruitment process. Whether you're aiming for a top-tier consulting firm or looking to refine your interview skills, I'm here to help. In addition to case and behavioral interview prep, I'm also happy to give feedback on resumes, or provide insight into a "day in the life" and career trajectories, etc. I'm passionate about this, because I think it's really valuable for folks to understand the profession they're joining and decide "eyes open" if it's the right step for them. And, if so, then let's help you best position yourself to get that job!
