Raising my own ACT score from a 23 to a 32 taught me firsthand what it takes to improve your score substantially . Growing up in a low-income, single-parent household, I understood how much every point mattered—for scholarships, opportunities, and even getting into my university’s business school. That experience shaped how I tutor today: I focus on strategy, pattern recognition, and efficient study methods, not busywork or paid time spent watching you take practice tests like many ACT programs do. For the past 10+ years, I’ve helped students build confidence, break through plateaus, and reach scores in the 30s. If you’re willing to put in the work, meaningful improvement is absolutely possible—and the doors a higher score can open are worth it.

The ACT is fast becoming my favorite undergraduate entrance exam. Although I did not take it in high school, once I began tutoring the SAT for Kaplan, I was asked to try the ACT. I tested in and started cracking the code. After working with at least 400 clients on this exam, I've become familiar with its patterns, and I've tailored techniques to improve any student's experience with this test. Like the SAT, the ACT has recently been shortened, and the Science section is no longer required. As such, I believe this is the best time to take this test.

I have been a full-time tutor for over a decade now, and during that time I've worked with more than 300 students prepping for the ACT. Many students come to me after having taken the test once already, but I have also helped plenty of students prepare for their first taking of the test. Those who spend at least 10 sessions with me regularly experience improvement of at least 3 points on their composite score. Most students I have worked with reach out for help with a specific section of the ACT, but I have provided full test preparation for many others. For the English section, I provide expert guidance on grammatical rules and rhetorical techniques. For ACT Math, I offer extensive review on both the basics and advanced skills, while also teaching test-taking and calculator skills. Concentrated work on the English or Math section often yields improvement of at least 4 points in that section.
