When I was in undergrad, I can’t count the number of times I changed my mind on what I wanted to do — I wanted to be an investment banker, a consultant, a lawyer, a peace corps member — you name it and it probably crossed my mind. Each time I felt lost and confused among what felt like unlimited options I could pursue post grad, Jess was the first and often only person who could help me think through it. She listened, asked provocative questions, and guided me in evaluating the path I was contemplating in the moment. Every time, I always walked out of our time together with a clearer idea of what I wanted out of my career. Beyond the advice she directly gave me, she also had a vast network of professionals that could answer more nuanced questions about various roles. Jess enabled me to land a job that brought together what I was good at and what I was passionate about. Because of Jess, I leverage problem solving, communication, and analytical skills to help Capital One customers in their financial journeys; I go to work each day loving what I do; and most importantly, I know what I value in my career. At first, I really didn’t think I was cut out for consulting. I applied and interviewed for my university’s consulting club but got rejected. I started my career out of college in healthcare operations and this past fall decided I wanted to make the move to marketing.
