About Nels

For a long time I thought I couldn't get into consulting — non-target school and subpar GPA. It wasn't until after I worked at more than 10 internships and then doing a summer at BCG that I connected the dots. What I learned is that consulting recruiters are looking for three attributes: (1) Analytically capable (2) Hard work (3) Like-ability If you are weak in one dimension, it is 100% possible to compensate by being exceptional in another, but you have to be careful and strategic. People don't believe in themselves because they over index on casing and resume.

Why do I coach?

My thesis is: (Working smarter + working harder) > (everything) — brute force won't work for getting the job you want. Recruit strategically so that companies can trust you to think strategically. MBB is more accessible than people think — but casing ability and resume only get you table stakes. The competitive advantage lies in networking strategy and in interview paradigm. I am a firm believer that "There is no chance, no destiny, no fate, that can circumvent or hinder or control the firm resolve of a determined soul." Most people self select out of consulting because their resume isn't good enough or they aren't fast enough at math. I disagree, I think you can.
