About Zander
I'm Zander, currently a joint MPA/ID and MBA candidate at the Harvard Kennedy School and Harvard Business School, where I'm exploring the intersection of the private and public sectors in healthcare and technology. I'm particularly passionate about finding scalable healthcare solutions from low- and middle-income countries that could benefit the U.S. healthcare system. Before Harvard, I was a Senior Business Analyst at McKinsey & Company, focusing on various aspects of the healthcare industry. My time at McKinsey also included a stint as a Research Fellow at the McKinsey Global Institute. Earlier, I worked as a cross-asset derivative strategist at Goldman Sachs, in their Global Banking and Markets division. My academic background is in Economics from the University of Chicago, where I also earned a finance certificate through the Booth School of Business. Outside of my studies, I manage research between McKinsey’s Center for U.S. Health System Reform and Harvard professors, aiming to develop a U.S. hospital productivity index. I also serve as a strategic advisor to SIRUM, a healthcare non-profit. On campus, I'm involved with the Joint Degree Leadership Council and contribute to both Jewish and LGBTQ+ communities. In addition to my academic and professional pursuits, I have extensive experience in admissions and recruiting. I've worked in admissions at the University of Chicago, been a college essay application consultant for over eight years, and conducted interviews at McKinsey and Goldman Sachs. I hope to use this experience to help others navigate their academic and career paths.
Why do I coach?
I coach because I find deep fulfillment in guiding individuals through the admissions and interviewing process. To me, it's about helping others narrate their unique journey – how they arrived at this crucial juncture and why they're the perfect fit for a particular job or school. I'm passionate about assisting people in discovering and articulating their story in a way that's reflective, meaningful, and persuasive. My coaching is driven by a desire to strategize applications and interviews that resonate with an individual's authentic self and experiences, ensuring their narrative is compelling and true to who they are. This approach stems from my own experiences and the invaluable support I received from LGBTQ+ mentors. Understanding the nuances and sensitivities involved, especially for LGBTQ+ students, I aim to pay it forward. I want to empower others to achieve their dreams by navigating this complex process with confidence and clarity. For me, coaching is not just about success in applications; it's about affirming and celebrating each individual's journey and identity.
