About Yashvi

I often didn't think I would make it through college successfully, due to my severe food allergies. Now, I stand strong with multiple medical school acceptances as I decide where to spend my next four years. When I shared my personal statement with my physician of many years, he told me, “Thank you for letting me know that I was a part of who you are becoming. That’s really all a person can hope for.” Just as he cared for me as I grew up, I hope to walk alongside people in my communities over time, building a safe space for them and being a small part of who they become. That extends to my mentees and students as well! I want to be someone who redefines for a person or whole communities what pain is worth healing or preventing. I hope to have the education to advocate for patients to be cared for with compassion, dignity, and respect for their agency and story, regardless of their background. I want to be someone who makes even one person feel represented, who does not shy away from challenging cases or patients, and who upholds my promise to my calling. Lastly, I hope to help people trust their bodies, themselves, and others, just as I learned to while healing from food allergies. This means showing up authentically, and ready to connect over difficult topics. I can do this all as a physician who leads with humility, openness, and courage. Just as I have these reasons for my calling, it is important to me to support mentees on their journey to understanding themselves. This is why mentoring is one of my favorite involvements outside of community building!

Why do I coach?

I am especially passionate about coaching those who are disabled, have a chronic illness, or an identity that has shaped their journey in complex ways. I have tutored previously in Organic Chemistry, a course that I found personally challenging but grew to love and cherish through my own academic growth. After failing in 2021, I retook OChem one year later with curiosity and courage, and received an A-. The growth behind that A- became something I shared: in 2023, I supported students as an OChem tutor. As we made study plans for their final, my students seemed quieter than usual. I paused, reminded of the way I felt in their shoes months before. I shared my journey in OChem from failure to teaching others, knowing my openness could help them feel brave. Over time, I heard their voices grow more lighthearted and confident. Through tutoring, I was no longer afraid to speak about failure in academic settings, and I carried this with me as I created an OChem Resource Hub, tailored study plans, offered one-on-one help before exams, and supported the emotional and academic growth of my students. During my application cycle, I was asked most about my approach to handling failure, and this part of my journey stood out to each school I interviewed at. I am confident that learning to navigate and share about the bittersweet aspects of your story is one of the most important skills in getting accepted to higher education.
