About R.Ryan
I’m a board-certified pediatrician, Clinical Informatics expert, and Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) at the University of Toledo Health, where I lead digital transformation initiatives and oversee healthcare IT strategy. With 15+ years of experience at the intersection of medicine, technology, and law, I’ve built a career focused on improving healthcare outcomes through innovation, leadership, and education. After earning my MD and completing my MBA and MSc in Clinical Informatics, I pursued fellowships in Biomedical and Clinical Informatics and later developed a passion for artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare. To date, I’ve created over 45 GPT-based clinical AI applications to enhance clinical workflows and patient outcomes. My work blends cutting-edge technology with real-world clinical applications, addressing physician burnout and optimizing electronic health record (EHR) usability. In addition to my clinical and informatics work, I’m currently pursuing a law degree, with a focus on healthcare law, medical malpractice litigation, and AI policy. My unique blend of expertise positions me to guide aspiring professionals, particularly those interested in healthcare, informatics, and interdisciplinary career paths. 🎯 Why I’m Here on Leland: I’m passionate about mentoring and empowering individuals to excel in their academic and professional journeys. Whether you’re applying to medical school, pursuing graduate degrees in healthcare or informatics, or navigating career transitions into AI or healthcare law, I offer personalized, actionable advice to help you succeed. 🔥 Key Areas of Expertise: Medical and Graduate School Admissions Coaching (MD, DO, MBA, MSc, MPH, MHA, and non-traditional applicants) AI in Healthcare and Clinical Informatics Career Guidance Law School and Healthcare Law Mentoring Leadership, Physician Burnout, and Digital Transformation Consulting
Why do I coach?
🤝 Why I Coach Coaching isn’t just something I do — it’s a way for me to give back and guide others, just as I was guided early in my career. Throughout my journey, I’ve had the privilege of being mentored by exceptional leaders who helped me navigate the complexities of medicine, technology, and leadership. One mentor, in particular, encouraged me to pursue a prestigious fellowship in Biomedical Informatics at the NIH, which became a pivotal moment that shaped my career and fueled my passion for innovation in healthcare. Over the years, I’ve coached and mentored hundreds of students — from high school aspiring pre-med students, to medical school applicants, and residents and fellows navigating their careers. I’ve also served as a life coach and advisor for professionals seeking to balance demanding careers with personal growth and fulfillment. I know firsthand how transformative the right guidance can be, and I’m committed to providing that same support to others. 🌟 Why Coaching Matters to Me I believe that everyone deserves access to knowledge and mentorship that empowers them to succeed. Whether it’s helping a student craft a compelling personal statement, guiding a resident through career transitions, or advising a healthcare professional on integrating AI into their practice, I’m driven by the opportunity to unlock potential and inspire confidence. For me, coaching is about making complex paths clearer and empowering individuals to achieve their goals with purpose and strategy. I’ve walked these paths myself, and I’m here to help others navigate them with greater clarity and confidence.
