About Rebecca
Hello! I am an incoming medical student at the University of California, San Francisco, and I would love to help you succeed on your MCAT and medical school application journey! As an undergraduate, I attended UCLA, where I graduated with honors. While a student, I did extensive undergraduate research, and I helped teach organic chemistry I, organic chemistry II, and biochemistry. Through my role as the Special Events and Alumni Coordinator for UCLA Health's Care Extender Program, I have helped countless students further their careers by helping them navigate joining research labs, studying for the MCAT, and applying to medical school. I scored a 524 (131/130/132/131) on my MCAT, and I received numerous interview offers from T5, T10, and T20 medical schools. I have a holistic approach to helping students realize their goals, and as the first in my family to pursue medicine, I know how important mentorship and coaching are to achieve success. Reach out, tell me about your aspirations, and let's work together to achieve them!
Why do I coach?
I grew up in a small rural town, and I am the first person in my family to pursue a career as a physician. The mentorship I have received while in undergrad, studying for my MCAT, and applying to medical school was integral to my success. I am passionate about paying mentorship forward because I know how important it is to have a trusted confidant who has navigated the challenges you are facing.
Work Experience
Special Events and Alumni Coordinator
UCLA Health
August 2023 - May 2025
Admissions Committee Experience
As the Special Events and Alumni Coordinator for the UCLA Health Care Extender volunteer program, I organized and hosted career development webinars such as: getting involved in undergraduate research, studying for the MCAT, and applying to medical school. I have reached over 100 students with these mentorship efforts. I also facilitated the offboarding of Care Extender volunteers who completed the program, maintained contact with program alumni, managed social media for recruitment and maintaining program engagement, and directed the mentorship program. In addition, I was involved in the application review and interviewing process for the Care Extender volunteer program, and I helped determine admissions to our program.
Undergraduate Researcher
UCLA
December 2021 - June 2024
For two and a half years, I worked as an Undergraduate Researcher in the Morizono Lab under the Department of Medicine. In this role, I was responsible for leading my own research projections, including experimental design, data collection, data analysis, and data presentation. I was also responsible for training new lab members. My research involved developing lentiviral vectors and elucidating their binding targets, with applications for B cell gene therapy. I have had the opportunity to present my research at the West Coast Biological Sciences Undergraduate Research Conference, the UCLA Department of Medicine Research Day, the UCLA Undergraduate Research and Creativity Showcase, and the UCLA MIMG Undergraduate Research Symposium. My work has contributed to papers published in Molecular Therapy and Microbiology Spectrum (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ymthe.2024.03.002 and https://doi.org/10.1128/spectrum.01137-22). I have been awarded two competitive research scholarships: UCLA Honors Summer Research Stipend and Undergraduate Research Fellows Program.
Learning Assistant
